Bacterial cDNA expression libraries are made to reproduce protein sequences present in the mRNA source tissue. However, there is no control over which frame of the cDNA is translated, because translation of the cDNA must be initiated on vector sequence. In a library of nondirectionally cloned cDNAs, only some 8% of the protein sequences produced are expected to be correct. Directional cloning c...

Cultural heritage information systems offer access to objects coming from museums, archives and libraries. To enhance retrieval performance and access across languages, metadata is enriched with controlled vocabularies or other datasets with structured information. During this process many pitfalls occur which lead to wrong or poor enrichments thus decreasing the user experience. Taking the use...

Ancient mitochondrial DNA has been used in a wide variety of paleontological and archeological studies, ranging from population dynamics of extinct species to patterns of domestication. Most of these studies have traditionally been based on the analysis of short fragments from the mitochondrial control region, analyzed using PCR coupled with Sanger sequencing. With the introduction of high-thro...

An enrichment cloning method was evaluated for the isolation of microsatellite loci from eastern white pine and the resulting markers were examined for polymorphisms. A 200-fold enrichment was achieved for highly abundant (AC)n repeats, but for much less abundant (ACAG)n repeats an enrichment of only 20-fold was obtained. Using a single set of PCR conditions, 19 microsatellite loci were identif...

OBJECTIVES The sympathetic skin response (SSR) is a technique to assess the sympathetic cholinergic pathways, and it can be used to study the central sympathetic pathways in spinal cord injury (SCI). This study investigated the capacity of the isolated spinal cord to generate an SSR, and determined the relation between SSR, levels of spinal cord lesion, and supraspinal connections. METHODS Pa...

Foregut digesta from five feral dromedary camels were inoculated into three different enrichment media: cotton thread, filter paper, and neutral detergent fiber. A total of 283 16S rRNA gene sequences were assigned to 33 operational taxonomic units by using 99% species-level identity. LIBSHUFF revealed significant differences in the community composition across all three libraries.

Simple sequence repeats (SSRs) play important roles in gene regulation and genome evolution. Although there exist several online resources for SSR mining, most of them only extract general SSR patterns without providing functional information. Here, an online search tool, CG-SSR (Comparative Genomics SSR discovery), has been developed for discovering potential functional SSRs from vertebrate ge...

SSR (simple sequence repeats) are ubiquitously abundant in genomes. In organellar mitochondrial genome of animals, its distribution, size dynamics and effectiveness for phylogenetic relationship have not been understood. Present investigation reveals organisation of SSR in genic and intergenic region, its length and repeat motif dynamics, extent of conservation of flanking regions, appropriaten...

[(3)H]SSR-149415 is the first tritiated nonpeptide vasopressin V(1b) receptor (V(1b)R) antagonist ligand. It was used for studying rodent (mouse, rat, hamster) and human V(1b)R from native or recombinant origin. Moreover, a close comparison between the human and the mouse V(1b)R was performed using SSR-149415/[(3)H]SSR-149415 in binding and functional studies in vitro. [(3)H]SSR-149415 binding ...

objective: recently, phage display libraries have received enormous attention for identification and isolation of pharmaceutical molecules with diagnostic and therapeutic properties. peptide libraries are known as one of the most important and widely used types of phage display libraries. in the current study, we aimed to screen the ph.d.tm-7 phage display peptide library through biopanning for...
