The main paradigm for practical motion planning in the last two decades is Probabilistic Road Map (PRM). We propose an alternative paradigm called Soft Subdivision Search (SSS). The SSS approach is based on two ingredients: the standard subdivision of space, coupled with soft predicates. Such predicates are conservative and convergent relative to exact predicates. This leads to a new class of r...

Statistically self-similar (SSS) processes can be used to describe a variety of physical phenomena, yet modeling these phenomena has proved challenging. Most of the proposed models for SSS and approximately SSS processes have power spectra that behave as 1=f , such as fractional Brownian motion (fBm), fractionally differenced noise, and wavelet-based syntheses. The most flexible framework is pe...

In 1979 Stockman introduced the SSS* minimax search algorithm that dominates Alpha-Beta in the number of leaf nodes expanded. Further investigation of the algorithm showed that it had three serious drawbacks, which prevented its use by practitioners: it is difficult to understand, it has large memory requirements, and it is slow. This paper presents an alternate formulation of SSS*, in which it...

Despite being a core characteristic of anxiety disorders, little data have been reported on somatic symptoms (SSs) in youth with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Eighty-five children and adolescents with OCD were administered the Children’s Yale Brown ObsessiveCompulsive Scale and completed the Children’s Depression Inventory and Multidimensional Anxiety Scale for Children. Their parents co...

the silent sinus syndrome (sss) involves painless facial asymmetry and enophthalmos, which is theresult of chronic maxillary sinus atelectasis. in most cases, it is diagnosed clinically, however, usingthe characteristic imaging features including maxillary sinus outlet obstruction, sinus opacification, and sinus volume loss caused by inward retraction of the sinus walls. obstruction of the maxil...

We propose a MapReduce based stream processing system, called SSS, which is capable of processing stream along with large scale static data. Unlike the existing stream processing systems that can work only on the relatively small on-memory data-set, SSS can process incoming streamed data consulting the stored data. SSS processes streamed data with continuous Mappers and Reducers, that are perio...

Proactive Secret Sharing (PSS) scheme is a method to periodically renew n secret shares in a (k, n) threshold-based Secret Sharing Scheme (SSS) without modifying the secret, or reconstructing the secret to reproduce new shares. Traditionally, PSS schemes are developed for the Shamir’s SSS which is a single SSS. Bai (2006) developed a multiple-secret sharing scheme using matrix projection. This ...

Subclavian steal syndrome (SSS) has been well described in the setting of subclavian stenosis. We describe an unusual case of SSS caused by a high-flow arteriovenous dialysis fistula in the absence of subclavian stenosis, provide a review of the literature, and propose that arteriovenous fistula-induced SSS is an underdiagnosed cause of syncope in this population of patients.

This study compared the factor structure of the Sensation-Seeking Scale (SSS) in English and American samples, and a new form of the SSS, applicable to both samples, was constructed. Three of the four factors showed good crossnational and cross-sex reliability. English and American males did not differ on the total SSS score, but American females scored higher than English females. Males in bot...

Smokers who attend NHS Stop Smoking Services (SSS) are four times more likely to stop smoking; however, uptake has been in decline. We report the development of an intervention designed to increase uptake of SSS, from a more motivated self-selected sample of smokers. In Phase 1 we collected data to explore the barriers and facilitators to people using SSS. In Phase 2, data from extant literatur...
