PURPOSE Deconvolution based on truncated singular value decomposition (SVD deconvolution) is a promising method for measuring cerebral blood flow (CBF) with dynamic susceptibility contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DSC-MRI), but it has proved extremely sensitive to tracer delay. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of regional tracer delay on CBF determined by SVD ...

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) increases stroke risk, but the mechanism is uncertain. This study aimed to determine the association between SLE and features on neuroimaging of cerebral small vessel disease (SVD), a risk factor for stroke. METHODS Consecutive patients attending a clinic for SLE were recruited. All patients underwent brain magnetic resonance imaging; ...

Approximate query answering has recently emerged as an effective method for generating a viable answer. Among various techniques for approximate query answering, wavelets have received a lot of attention. However, wavelet techniques minimizing the root squared error (i.e., the L2 norm error) have several problems such as the poor quality of reconstructed data when the original data is biased. I...

OBJECTIVES In this cross-sectional study, we tested the construct validity of a "total SVD score," which combines individual MRI features of small-vessel disease (SVD) in one measure, by testing associations with vascular risk factors and stroke subtype. METHODS We analyzed data from patients with lacunar or nondisabling cortical stroke from 2 prospective stroke studies. Brain MRI was rated f...

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Despite moderate heritability, the phenotypic heterogeneity of ischemic stroke has hampered gene discovery, motivating analyses of diagnostic subtypes with reduced sample sizes. We assessed evidence for a shared genetic basis among the 3 major subtypes: large artery atherosclerosis (LAA), cardioembolism, and small vessel disease (SVD), to inform potential cross-subtype an...

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Endothelial dysfunction may play a causal role in cerebral small vessel disease (SVD). Asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA), a circulating endogenous inhibitor of nitric oxide, has been implicated in endothelial dysfunction, particularly in hyperhomocystinemia, a known risk factor for SVD. We determined if ADMA was elevated in SVD, correlated with disease severity, and inte...

Cerebral small vessel disease (SVD) is a common accompaniment of ageing. Features seen on neuroimaging include recent small subcortical infarcts, lacunes, white matter hyperintensities, perivascular spaces, microbleeds, and brain atrophy. SVD can present as a stroke or cognitive decline, or can have few or no symptoms. SVD frequently coexists with neurodegenerative disease, and can exacerbate c...

OBJECTIVES To determine the contribution of gradations of subclinical vascular disease (SVD) to the likelihood of longer survival and to determine what allows some individuals with SVD to live longer. DESIGN Cohort study. SETTING Cardiovascular Health Study. PARTICIPANTS Individuals born between June 30, 1918, and June 30, 1921 (N = 2,082; aged 70-75 at baseline (1992-93)). MEASUREMENTS...

ALPHA is one of the experiments situated at CERN’s Antiproton Decelerator (AD). A Silicon Vertex Detector (SVD) is placed to surround the ALPHA atom trap. The main purpose of the SVD is to detect and locate antiproton annihilation events by means of the emitted charged pions. The SVD system is presented with special focus given to the design, fabrication and performance of the modules.

Watermarking algorithms of digital images based on singular value decomposition (SVD) have been proposed recently. Most SVD-based watermarking techniques use singular values as the embedding watermark information. These SVD-based techniques are advantageous for watermarking images since slight changes in the singular values do not affect significantly
