The paper discusses the design of optimised current waveforms, to give the lowest RMS current per phase for a given mean torque. The waveforms are constrained to be within the converter VA rating. Current waveforms and the associated voltage waveform, over a wide speed range, are given for a representative motor.

We present a solution to the speed sensorless control problem for switched-reluctance motors under parametric uncertainty. Our main results guarantee velocity tracking control for velocity references with constant reference acceleration under the assumption that the load torque, the rotor inertia, the resistance and inductances are unknown. Under a persistency of excitation condition on a funct...

The prediction of switched reluctance motor (SRM) performance requires knowledge of core losses. However, the calculation of iron losses in SRM is especially complex first because the flux waveforms are nonsinusoidal and different parts of the magnetic circuit have different waveforms and second because they are conditioned by the type of control used. This study proposes an analytical method f...

This paper addresses a basic control issue in switched reluctance motor (SRM) drives—the production of a ripple-free torque. Simple and largely model-independent conventional supply waveforms are not able to satisfy this requirement. The goal of this paper is to improve SRM dynamical performance by compensating for motor nonlinearities, while maintaining the robustness of conventional methods. ...

The article presents the features of traction switched reluctance motors with a diametric closure magnetic flux and “short field”. A computer simulation motor short field is performed for ideal location rotor inside stator, as well two cases displacement. hodographs radial interaction forces stator are calculated.

Abstract— The Switched Reluctance Motor (SRM) drive has evolved as an alternative to conventional motors in variable speed drives because of advantages like simple and rugged structure, absence of rotor winding, adaptability to harsh environments and high speed operation. This paper presents the speed control of Asymmetrical converter fed 4 phase 8/6 Switched Reluctance Motor drive using PWM co...

The concept of this work helps to develop a switched reluctance motor (SRM) drive. Because of salient feature like four quadrant, rigid structure, high-speed capability and low cost from other types of motors, switched reluctance motor is more predictable in high speed applications. Its on-board integrated charger is formed using the embedded motor drive components. Good driving and regenerativ...

By using the energy dissipation theory and the property of the switched reluctance motor, this paper presents a nonlinear controller for the planar switched reluctance motors (PSRM). Based on the fact that the electrical time constant is much smaller than the mechanical time constant, the whole PSRM driving system is treated as a two-time-scale system and can be decomposed into two subsystems (...

A novel structure of switched reluctance motors (SRMs) is proposed. The proposed structure uses the benefits of the axial flux path, short flux path, segmental rotor, and flux reversal free stator motors all together to improve the torque density of the SRMs. The main geometrical, electrical and physical specifications are presented. In addition, some features of the proposed structure are comp...

A new method based on a fuzzy logic for estimating the phase inductance and resistance of switched reluctance motors (SRMs) is presented. The rotor position and the phase current of the 6/4 pole SRM are used to predict the phase inductance. The phase inductance results predicted by the fuzzy are in excellent agreement with the results of the finite element method and the fuzzy estimation of the...
