BACKGROUND Previous research has shown that several clinical conditions cause increased pre-attentive visual search (PAVS) times, implying reduced parallel search capabilities in glaucoma and DLB dementia. The purpose of the research reported here was to examine for the first time the resistance of PAVS to dioptric blur using targets differing from the background in terms of flicker, vertical d...

A new target-responsive DNA strand displacement system via toehold-mediated click chemical ligation was designed and prepared for enzyme-free fluorescent-amplified aptasensors. The aptasensors significantly amplified fluorescent signals in response to targets based on target recycling processes.

Some accounts hold that the position of moving objects is extrapolated either in visual perception or visual short-term memory ("representational momentum"). However, some studies did not find forward displacement of the final position when smooth motion was used, whereas reliable displacement was observed with implied motion. To resolve this conflict, the frequency of position changes was vari...

The Varian Real-time Position Management (RPM) system allows respiratory gating based on either the phase or displacement (amplitude) of the breathing waveform. A problem in clinical application is that phase-based gating, required for respiration-correlated (4D-CT) simulation, is not robust to irregular breathing patterns during treatment, and a widely used system version (1.6) does not provid...

A novel DNA detection assay was proposed by invasive reaction coupled with molecular beacon assisted strand-displacement signal amplification (IRASA). Target DNAs are firstly hybridized to two probes to initiate invasive reaction to produce amplified flaps. Then these flaps are further amplified by strand-displacement signal amplification. The detection limit was around 0.2 pM.

This paper develops a 24 GHz band FM-CW radar system to detect closed multiple targets in a small displacement environment, and its performance is analyzed by computer simulation. The FM-CW radar system uses a differential detection method for removing any signals from background objects and uses a tunable FIR filtering in signal processing for detecting multiple targets. The differential detec...

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Motion compensation with MLC tracking was tested for inversely optimized arc radiotherapy with special attention to the impact of the size of the target displacements and the angle of the leaf trajectory. MATERIALS AND METHODS An MLC-tracking algorithm was used to adjust the MLC positions according to the target movements using information from an optical real-time posi...

This paper presents the data on the anticipatory coarticulation of C2 and V2 on V1 in V1#C2V2 sequences in Standard Chinese. Electropalatographic measures and F2 trajectory were obtained to define the articulatory and F2 targets for V1 as well as the displacement for articulatory and F2 transition of V1. Results show that the articulatory target is affected only by C2 place, while C2 place, C2 ...

The perceived position of a moving target at a particular point in time, indicated by a flash, is often judged to be different from its actual location. Here, we show that the position of a target moving in depth is also systematically mislocalized. We used three types of targets moving in depth at a range of speeds from 2 to 16 cm/s. (i) A target realistically rendered that included concordant...

Domestic dogs (Canis familiaris) perform above chance on invisible displacement tasks despite showing few other signs of possessing the necessary representational abilities. Four experiments investigated how dogs find an object that has been hidden in 1 of 3 opaque boxes. Dogs passed the task under a variety of control conditions, but only if the device used to displace the object ended up adja...
