We study computationally and experimentally the propagation of chemical pulses in complex geometries. The reaction of interest, CO oxidation, takes place on single crystal Pt(110) surfaces that are microlithographically patterned; they are also addressable through a focused laser beam, manipulated through galvanometer mirrors, capable of locally altering the crystal temperature and thus affecti...

Fig.4: Temperature changes of a cheese phantom at the hottest voxel during FUS heating experiments. While measurements using GE fast gradient-echo sequence are echo time-dependent (a), the measurements using 2DRF pulse for fat suppression are very similar (b). With excitation pattern of Fig.2d, both fat suppression and 2D excitation were achieved, resulting in improvement in temporal resolution...

Temperature-sensitive Ca(2+) dynamics occur primarily through transient receptor potential channels, but also by means of Ca(2+) channels and pumps on the endoplasmic reticulum membrane. As such, cytoplasmic Ca(2+) concentration ([Ca(2+)]cyt) is re-equilibrated by changes in ambient temperature. The present study investigated the effects of heat pulses (heating duration: 2 s or 150 s) on [Ca(2+...

E. J., a Jew, aged 51, stout and of apparently healthy constitution, wa3 admitted on the 29th December 1874 into the Mayo Native Hospital with a small scrotal tumour of three years' standing. The growth of the tumour has lately been rapid, but unattended with fever, the integument of tho penis and scrotum were equally involved in tho hypertrophic growth, and the penis was imbedded in it. The ma...

The output energy of 10.6 and 3.25 J with a pulse duration of ~1 ms and a crystal temperature of 85 K was achieved in the Fe:ZnSe and Fe:ZnS lasers, respectively. At room temperature, the Fe:ZnSe laser energy was as high as 1.2 J with a pulse duration of 150 ns. A few optical schemas of the Cr:CdSe laser with laser diode pumping were realized.

In this work, magnetic Ni nanowire arrays were ac-pulse electrodeposited into the anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) template fabricated by the common two-step anodization technique. The barrier layers at the  bottom of the pores were exponentially thinned in a non-equilibrium anodization process to 8, 12, 16 and 20 V. These were fabricated using the constant of 15 mA deposition current, 48 mS off-tim...

We investigate numerically a single-pulse implementation of a quantum ControlNot (CN) gate for an ensemble of Ising spin systems at room temperature. For an ensemble of four-spin “molecules” we simulate the time-evolution of the density matrix, for both digital and superpositional initial conditions. Our numerical calculations confirm the feasibility of implementation of quantum CN gate in this...

A detailed uncertainty analysis is presented for the pulse parameter measurement service of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST, USA). It relates to the new pulse parameter measurement and extraction processes. Uncertainties for pulse amplitude, transition duration, overshoot and undershoot (preshoot) are given. Effects of temperature variation, impulse response estimate, p...

was passed. Temperature was 99.4?F. but the pulse had risen to 102 though still of good volume. He vomited a small quantity of bilious matter. A differential leucocytic count showed 89 per cent polymorphonuclears. A provisional diagnosis of " obstruction with commencing peritonitis" was made and laparotomy decided on. At 9-30 a.m. when the patient arrived on the table his general condition was ...
