The objective of the present study was to investigate the antiplasmodial effect of the ethanolic stem bark extract of Anthocleista vogelii at different doses in albino mice infected with Plasmodium berghei berghei (NK 65). Thirty-six mice were divided into six groups of six mice each. Five groups (B1-B3, D, and G) were infected with Plasmodium berghei berghei parasitized red blood cells. Groups...

Eight known compounds were isolated from the shrub Tephrosia toxicaria. Among them, 6,7-dimethoxy-chromone (1), was described by the first time from this genus, villosinol (2), which had been previously reported without its 13C-NMR data and sumatrol (3), which has its 13C-NMR data corrected. The antibacterial activity of Tephrosia toxicaria extract and obovatin (6), deguelin (7), 12a-hydroxyα-t...

Chemical investigations of aerial parts of Tephrosia purpurea yielded the rare prenylated flavonoids, tephropurpulin A (1) and isoglabratephrin (2), in addition to a previously identified flavonoid, glabratephrin (3). Structures were established by 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy, as well as by HR-MS analysis; for compounds 2 and 3, structures were confirmed by X-ray analysis.

For studying the effect of soil fertility management practices on N mineralization, urease activity and maize yield, replicated field trials were established in 2015 at Misamfu Msekera agricultural research stations (ARS) representing two geo-climatic regions Zambia. The ARS is a sandy clay loam (SCL) from Paleustult, while that loamy sand (LS) Kandiustult. had three categories treatments namel...

The ethanolic extract of the root of Tephrosia purpurea was screened for in vitro antioxidant properties using standard procedures. The ethanolic extract exhibited IC(50) values of 132.31±8.79 and 405.22±15.09 respectively in DPPH and nitric acid radical inhibition assay. These values were slightly more than those obtained for ascorbic acid and rutin used as standard. The findings justify the t...

Introduction Pests and diseases limit common bean ( Phaseolus vulgaris ) production in intensifying smallholder farming systems of sub-Saharan Africa. Soil-borne pests (SPD) are particularly challenging for farmers to distinguish manage cropping that vary terms soils, farmer knowledge, management factors. Few studies have examined soil drivers SPD systems, integrated with farmers' perceptions p...

The naturally occurring allilochemics play a promising role in insect control by deterring insect feeding by their effects as insect growth regulators, as antihormones or as insecticides. Effect of Tephrosia purpurea extracts on reproductive ability i.e. fecundity was reduced at more than 40.08 %. There is reduction in hatching percentage also. It may be due to reduced juvenile hormone titre wh...

Tephrosia purpurea is a copiously branched herbaceous perennial plant distributed throughout the tropics which is used in the treatment of bronchitis, diuretic, pimples, tonic, laxative, cough, and tumour. The present study is an attempt to explore the anthelmintic activity of aqueous and methanolic extract of leaves of plant Tephrosia purpurea . The various concentrations of aqueous and methan...
