Aromatic amines belong to a group of compounds that exert their toxic effects usually after oxidative biotransformation, primarily in the liver. In addition, aromatic amines also undergo extrahepatic activation to yield free arylaminyl radicals. The reactive intermediates are potential promutagens and procarcinogens, and responsible for target tissue toxicity. Since thiols react with these inte...
The present work describes ultrafast thermalized and hot hole transfer processes from photo-excited CdSe quantum dots (QDs) and CdSe/ZnS core-shell QDs (CSQDs) to newly synthesized thiols. Three thiols namely 2-mercapto-N-phenylacetamide (AAT), 3-mercapto-N-phenylpropanamide (APT) and 3-mercapto-N-(4-methoxyphenyl) propanamide (ADPT) were synthesized and their interaction with both CdSe QDs and...
We studied changes in the activity of human creatine kinase isoenzymes (native MM in serum, MM, MB, and BB preparations in serum matrix) on storage in the presence of 0, 10, 20, and 50 mmol of N-acetyl cysteine, 2-mercaptoethanol, and 1-thioglycerol per liter of serum at 37, 30, 25, 4, and -20 degrees C. We also assessed the stability of the thiols under the same conditions. We generally confir...
Continuous flow photo-thiol–ene reactions on cinchona alkaloids with a variety of organic thiols have been developed using enabling technologies such as self-optimizing photochemical reactor.
Biomass derivable epichlorohydrin undergoes ring-opening copolymerization with either succinic or itaconic anhydride (both biosourcable) under standard laboratory conditions using metal-based an entirely organic initiator to form highly functionalized, low molecular weight polyesters. The linear polyesters obtained from and contain both alkyl chlorides ?,?-unsaturated esters can be crosslinked ...
Patterns of growth inhibition of Escherichia coli in the presence of 2-bromo-2-nitropropane-1,3-diol (bronopol) indicate a period of biocide-induced bacteriostasis followed by growth at an inhibited rate. The length of the bacteriostatic period, but not the subsequent growth inhibition, was reduced by the addition of excess cysteine. Patterns of growth inhibition were unaffected by catalase or ...
Protein disulfide isomerase (PDI) facilitates proper folding and disulfide bonding of nascent proteins in the endoplasmic reticulum and is secreted by cells and associates with the cell surface. We examined the consequence of over- or underexpression of PDI in HT1080 fibrosarcoma cells for the redox state of cell-surface protein thiols/disulfides. Overexpression of PDI resulted in 3.6-4. 2-fold...
A method for analyzing biothiols based on high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)-fluorescence detection under hydrophilic interaction chromatography (HILIC) conditions has been developed. Thiols were derivatized with nonfluorescent ammonium 7-fluoro-2,1,3-benzoxadiazole-4-sulfonate (SBD-F), which selectively reacts with the thiol groups to furnish the corresponding fluorescent SBD–thiols...
A novel method for the synthesis of vinyl sulfides by the decarboxylative cross-coupling of arylpropiolic acids with thiols using copper(I) salts as catalysts has been developed. In the presence of CuI and Cs(2)CO(3), a variety of thiols reacted with arylpropiolic acids to afford the corresponding vinyl sulfides in good to excellent yields with high stereoselectivity for Z-isomers.
A new "dual-mode" chromogenic and fluorescent turn-on probe (2) for the selective sensing of biological thiols is reported. In MeOH-H(2)O cosolvent at physiological pH 7.40 (MeOH-H(2)O = 3:7), biological thiols cleave the 2,4-dinitrobenzenesulfonyl group to release the chromo- and fluorophore merocyanine (3).
