Given that r and s are natural numbers and X ∼ Binomial(r, q) and Y ∼ Binomial(s, p) are independent random variables where q, p ∈ (0, 1), we prove that the likelihood ratio of the convolution Z = X + Y is decreasing, increasing, or constant when q < p, q > p or q = p, respectively. © 2009 Elsevier B.V. In [1], Feng et al. propose a polynomial time approximation algorithm for a novel maximum edge coloring problem which arises from the field of wireless mesh networks [2]. The problem is about coloring all the edges in a graph and finding a coloring solution which uses the maximum number of colors with the constraint, for every vertex in the graph, all the edges incident to it are colored with n...

The gravitational gradient of intrapleural pressure is suggested to be less in prone posture than supine. Thus the gravitational distribution of ventilation is expected to be more uniform prone, potentially affecting regional ventilation-perfusion (Va/Q) ratio. Using a novel functional lung magnetic resonance imaging technique to measure regional Va/Q ratio, the gravitational gradients in proto...

We report ultra-compact surface-normal high-Q optical filters based on single- and double-layer stacked Fano resonance photonic crystal slabs on both Si and quartz substrates. A single layer photonic crystal filter was designed and a Q factor of 1,737 was obtained with 23 dB extinction ratio. With stacked double-layer photonic crystal configuration, the optical filter Q can increase to over 10,...

We utilize classical molecular dynamics to study energy dissipation (the Q factors) of doubly clamped copper nanowire nanoresonators undergoing flexural oscillations. We find that the application of tensile strain effectively mitigates both the intrinsic surface and thermal losses, with improvements in Q by a factor of 3-10 across a range of operating temperatures. We also find that the nanowir...

We show that for any convex object Q in the plane, the average distance between the Fermat-Weber center of Q and the points in Q is at least 4∆(Q)/25, and at most 2∆(Q)/(3 √ 3), where ∆(Q) is the diameter of Q. We use the former bound to improve the approximation ratio of a load-balancing algorithm of Aronov et al. [2].

BACKGROUND Q waves and negative T waves are common electrocardiographic (ECG) abnormalities in patients with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM). Several studies correlated ECG findings with presence and extent of fibrosis and hypertrophy; however, their significance remains incompletely clarified. Our study aimed to explain the mechanism behind Q and negative T waves by comparing their positions...

Farinelli and Tibiletti (F-T) ratio, a general risk-reward performance measurement ratio, is popular due to its simplicity and yet generality that both Omega ratio and upside potential ratio are its special cases. The F-T ratios are ratios of average gains to average losses with respect to a target, each raised by a power index, p and q. In this paper, we establish the consistency of F-T ratios...

We have studied the v0-dependent predissociation dynamics of the ClO A P3/2 state using velocity-map ion-imaging. Experimental final correlated state branching ratios, i.e. Cl(PJ=3/2,1/2) þ O(PJ=2,1,0) channels, have been measured for v0 = 6–11. We find that the branching ratios are highly variable and depend strongly on v0, providing a window into the v0-dependent predissociation mechanism. A ...

We study set-system auctions whereby a single buyer wants to purchase Q items of some commodity. There are multiple sellers, each of whom has some known number of items, and a private cost for supplying those items. Thus a “feasible set” of sellers (a set that is able to comprise the winning bidders) is any set of sellers whose total quantity sums to at least Q. We show that, even in a limited ...
