Agents used to color, flavor, preserve or identify medication frequently used in the treatment of allergic diseases may in themselves produce severe allergic or toxic reactions. Some cross-react with Aspirin. Aminopyrine, Indomethacin (indocin), Mefensmic Acid (ponstel) to which an allergic patient may be sensitive. Three case reports are presented.

The symptoms of advanced liver insufficiency, in the hepatectomized rabbit, are irreversible. That is to say, cross-transfusions between liverless rabbits and normal ones fail to ameliorate the symptoms of liver deprivation once they are established. The normal rabbits show no symptoms suggesting that toxic substances have accumulated in the blood of the hepatectomized ones.

We have presented a self-cross-link strategy to fabricate HSA nanoparticles using a desolvation method. The nanoparticles were stabilized by intermolecular disulfide bonds while still dissolvable in reducing media. The fabrication process does not involve any toxic chemicals and hence the nanoparticles may be useful as a drug carrier.

Highly luminescent, water-soluble and biocompatible Carbon Quantum Dots (aqCQDs) were prepared by encapsulating the parent hydrophobic CQDs in an amphiphilic polymer. The resulting aqCQDs were non-toxic to living cells, and were found to cross the cell membrane and localise primarily in the cytosol.

OBJECTIVE Toxic epidermal necrolysis and Stevens-Johnson syndrome have related high morbidity and mortality. We predict that preexisting multimorbidity is a major prognostic factor of both these diseases. METHODS A retrospective analysis in toxic epidermal necrolysis and Stevens-Johnson syndrome patients over the past 10 years. Three severity categories (minor, moderate, and severe multimorbi...

Previous studies have found a higher body-burden of toxic metals, particularly mercury (Hg), among subjects diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in comparison to neurotypical controls. Moreover, Hg body-burden was associated with ASD severity. This cross-sectional study examined the potential correlation between hair toxic metal concentrations and ASD severity in a prospective cohor...

Sir, We read the comments “Leech therapy and Infection control: No clear window”[1] on the article “Pigment reduction in Nevus of Ota following Leech Therapy: A case report” published recently in the JAIM with great interest.[2] It is true that the present practice of Ayurveda does not have a validated or well–studied protocol for preventing infections and associated adverse events of applicati...

A monoclonal anti-Thy-1.1 antibody (OX7) was coupled to either native or chemically deglycosylated ricin A-chain (dgA) using one of two different cross-linking agents. One cross-linker, N-succinimidyloxycarbonyl-alpha-methyl-alpha-(2-pyridyldithio)tolu ene (SMPT), generates a sterically hindered disulfide bond which is relatively resistant to reduction, whereas the other, 2-iminothiolane hydroc...

Cross-resistance studies involving a selected group of anticancer agents, most of which are radiomimetic, and derived mutants of Escherichia coli (strain S) have been undertaken in the hope of providing insight into the mechanism of action of anticancer agents. Despite the complexity of such a task, the data now available indicate that specific patterns of cross-resistance can be induced by the...
