Complications may arise during enteral feeding that are usually related to the diameter and rigidity of the tube or the delivery, composition, and sterility of the feed uses. By using a soft, fine bore tube to deliver a sterile feed of known composition, by continuous infusion rather than as a bolus, most of these complications can be avoided.

Although percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) tube placement is a common and safe procedure to provide enteral feeding, some patients develop complications. The aim of this study was to identify risk factors for the development of post-PEG complications. We hypothesized that patients with low albumin, diabetes, higher body mass index (BMI), thicker abdominal walls, or psychomotor agitation...

Percutaneous gastrostomy is well established root for long term feeding of patients who cannot be fed orally. The risks of percutanous gastrostomy insertion are low. Tube related complications often resolved by placing a Foley catheter or other balloon gastrostomy tube as a temporary solution. Gastrostomy tube related gastric, duodenal and billiary obstruction were reported. Gastrostomy tube re...

BACKGROUND Presence of a tracheostomy tube often decreases the patient's ability to communicate and to tolerate oral intake. The initial tracheostomy tube change is often recommended between day 7 and 14 post insertion. Local guidelines permit tracheostomy tube change 5 days after insertion. OBJECTIVE We hypothesized that changing tracheostomy tubes before day 7 is associated with earlier use...

Some specific management options to treat and prevent otitis media and certain related conditions are related to Eustachian tube dysfunction, whereas others are not. An understanding of the role that tubal dysfunction plays in the currently available nonsurgical and surgical options can be helpful not only in the decision-making process to treat or not to treat but also the reasons for complica...

Drainage tube migration after surgical procedures is a rare incidence and in the majority of cases without any significant complications. However, a few cases of intestinal obstruction or perforation have been reported. The most common site of a dislodged tube is the duodenum. Here we present a case of perforation of the sigmoid colon associated with drainage tube migration. A 55 years old male...

BACKGROUND The frequency of malpositioning of gastric tubes in the trachea has been reported to be 0.3-15%, which may cause severe complications, such as pneumonia, if not detected promptly. If a gastric tube can be guided into the esophagus under direct vision with a video laryngoscope, misplacement of the gastric tube into the trachea can be avoided. We compared gastric tube insertion under d...
