Brachial artery Bilateral trifurcation Radial recurrent artery The variations in the arterial pattern specially in the extremities are common. The trifurcation of brachial artery into radial, ulnar and either common interosseous or median artery are found commonly, but radial recurrent artery as a third branch is very rarely reported. Here we are reporting a rare case of bilateral trifurcation ...

Variations of the median nerve and ulnar artery have been well documented in the literature. In the present case, splitting of the median nerve by the ulnar artery is presented. Our literature searches revealed that there was no article, to our knowledge, describing such splitting. We think that this variation should be kept in mind during surgical and diagnostic procedures.

A 43-year-old professional skateboarder presented to the sports medicine clinic with complaints of left wrist pain to the ulnar aspect. Two weeks prior to presentation, his wrist became suddenly painful with no specific trauma. He reported a history of falls over the years while skateboarding but none directly correlated to his onset of wrist pain. Radiographic results were negative for wrist o...

ANATOMY The TFCC is a fibrocartilage-ligament complex which stabilizes the distal radioulnar joint (DRUJ), transmits axial load between the carpus and the ulna, and stabilizes the ulnar aspect of the carpus. The TFCC is comprised of the disc proper (articular disc), meniscus homologue, ulnolunate ligament, ulnotriquetral ligament, proximal ligamentous component, volar and dorsal radioulnar liga...

Abnormal arterial patterns in the forearm were discovered in 12 of 77 patients (16%) with Down's syndrome. Eight patients had an enlarged anterior interosseous artery, the distal portion of which was palpable over the dorsum of the hand; in seven it was associated with absence of the radial artery and in one it coexisted with the radial and ulnar arteries. Three patients had a hypoplastic radia...

BACKGROUND The superficial palmar arch (SPA) and deep palmar arch (DPA) provide the dominant vascular supply to the hand. The SPA is considered to be highly variable and can be classified as either complete or incomplete. The simplest definition states that the anastomosis between the vessels contributing to the arch represent a complete arch, while an incomplete arch is described as characteri...

Variations in formation of the superficial palmar arch are common. A classic superficial palmar arch is defined as direct continuity between the superficial branch of the ulnar artery and superficial palmar branch of the radial artery. During routine dissection classes to undergraduate medical students we have observed formation of superficial palmar arch solely by superficial branch of ulnar a...

The prominence of the hand function is underlined fundamentally by its rich vascular system. The superficial palmar arch incredibly provides hand with the blood supply, which is normally formed by the ulnar artery and superficial palmar branch of the radial artery. In the current case, the unilateral absence of superficial palmar arch with the rare presence of the median artery was reported, wh...
