The incidence of post-renal transplantation ureteral stenosis ranges from 2%-12%. Because the role of self-expanding ureteral metallic stents for its treatment has been scarcely reported, the aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of Nitinol stents. Eleven ureteral stenoses in patients with chronic graft dysfunction (8 cases) or high surgical risk (3 cases) were treated by antegrade per...

OBJECTIVES Ureteral double-J stents are known to migrate proximally and distally within the urinary tract, while perforation and stent displacement are uncommon. Possible mechanisms of displacement are either original malpositioning with ureteral perforation or subsequent fistula and erosion of the excretory system, due to infection or long permanence of the device. We present the unique case o...

OBJECTIVE The commonest indications for ureteral stent placement are: obstructive nephrolithiasis, renoureteral surgery, urologic oncology, endourology and extrinsic ureteral compression. METHODS We report the case of a 77-year-old male patient with a DJ ureteral catheter placed for an 8-month period and history of nephrolithiasis; the stent showed a 60 mm x 30 mm calcification on its distal ...

background ureteral stents are widely used in many urologic practices. however, stents can cause significant complications including migration, fragmentation, and encrustation and it may possibly be forgotten. successful management of a retained, encrusted stent requires combined endourological approaches. objectives to present our experience with the approaches for treating forgotten ureteral ...

A knotted ureteral stent is an extremely rare condition, with fewer than 20 cases reported in the literature; however, it is difficult to treat. We report a case in which a folded Terumo guidewire was successfully used to remove a knotted stent percutaneously without anesthesia. We also review the current literature on predisposing factors and management strategies for knotted ureteral stents.

BACKGROUND Circumcaval ureters (CU) are a rare embryological malformation resulting in ventral displacement of the caudal vena cava, which crosses the ureter, potentially causing a ureteral stricture. OBJECTIVES To evaluate cats with obstructed CU(s) and report the presenting signs, diagnostics, treatment(s), and outcomes. Cats with obstructed CU(s) were compared to ureterally obstructed cats...

PURPOSE We assess the safety, efficacy, and cost of the novel long-term indwelling thermo-expandable Memokath ureteral stent for the management of malignant and benign ureteral strictures. MATERIALS AND METHODS Since October 2004, we treated 73 patients (34 men), ages 23 to 84 years (mean 57.7) with 86 ureteral strictures (13 bilateral) with the Memokath 051 stent. The causes of the stricture...

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES The success of laser tissue welding or soldering depends on optimal laser settings, solder material, and tissue type and geometry. To develop a practical laser welding technique for ureteral repair, an intraluminal albumin stent was designed to enhance the welding effects on ureteral end to end anastomosis. STUDY DESIGN/MATERIALS AND METHODS In vitro porcine ureters ...

PURPOSE We assessed the efficacy and safety of insertion of a polytetrafluoroethylene membrane-covered self-expandable metallic stent (UVENTA stent) for palliation of malignant ureteral obstruction on the basis of our early results. MATERIALS AND METHODS Eighteen patients underwent UVENTA stent insertion for extrinsic malignant ureteral obstructions of 20 ureters. The UVENTA stents were deplo...
