Background: Leptospirosis has a worldwide distribution with high social and economic impact. It is caused by a variety of Leptospira spp. serovars, particularly in tropical regions. Various species of animals can be affected by Leptospira spp. including cattle, horses, sheep, goats and swine, and can act as a reservoir for human infection. In Brazil, sheep leptospirosis has been diagnosed in a ...
Leptospirosis is a bacterial zoonosis in which dogs can act as a reservoir for human infection. The annual vaccination of dogs can prevent leptospirosis caused by serovars included in the vaccine. To date, all available vaccines in Germany include only the serovars Icterohaemorrhagiae and Canicola, the most commonly found serovars prior to the introduction of the leptospirosis vaccines. Yet, th...
Leptospira interrogans serovar Bataviae was recently identified as one of the persistent Leptospira serovars in Malaysia. Here, we report the draft genome sequence of the L. interrogans serovar Bataviae strain LepIMR 22 isolated from kidney of a rodent in Johor, Malaysia.
The proportion of positive Leptospira microscopic agglutination tests for 23,005 dogs significantly increased from 2002 to 2004 (p < 0.002) regardless of the positive cutoff titer used and was highest (p < 0.05) for serovars Autumnalis and Grippotyphosa. The strongest positive serologic correlation (r = 0.72) was between serovars Autumnalis and Pomona.
Leptospirosis is a common disease of livestock, pet many countries for cattle, dogs and swine but vaccination may animals and wildlife throughout the world. Sporadic cases and prove only partially effective due to generation of serovar outbreaks of the disease have been reported from USA, U.K, specific immunity, prevalence of several Leptospira serovars Australia, New Zealand, USSR and countrie...
Leptospirosis is an infectious disease that affects practically all domestic and wild animals, which can become carriers and, as a consequence, will contribute to the spread of microorganism in nature. The present study aims detect occurrence leptospirosis against by microscopic serum agglutination test animals at Zoo Centro Universitário da Amazônia (ZOOUNAMA). 26 adult both sexes following sp...
Leptospirosis, a disease more common in the tropics, can cause a life-threatening multisystemic syndrome in humans and animals. Immunity, whether natural or vaccine-induced, is serogroup-specific with the infecting serovars varying according to geographical locality. In South Africa, in spite of the fact that the bacterin vaccine for some Leptospira serovars is often used, there is no recent in...
This study was conducted on 210 sheep in Maku area in Iran in order to determine seroprevalence of leptospiral infection. Sera were initially screened at dilution of 1:100 against 8 live serovars of Leptospira interrogans: Pomona, Canicola, Hardjo, Ballom, Icterohaemorrhagiae, Automenalis,Australis and Grippotyphosa using the microscopic agglutination test. The prevalence of leptospiral infecti...
Leptospirosis is a zoonotic infection causing clinical and subclinical disease in dogs, humans, and other mammalian species. Although more than 200 different Leptospira interrogans serovars have been identified (11), the serovars most commonly isolated from dogs with clinical leptospirosis in Southern Germany are L. grippothyphosa and L. saxkoebing (3). However, vaccines currently available in ...
We conducted a 10 years’ retrospective study in 347 symptomatic individuals to assess the regional distribution of leptospirosis. A total 173 were diagnosed positive (49.8%): 11.5% found Leptospira by microscopic agglutination test positive, whereas 38.3% microscopy analysis. The maximum peak leptospirosis was reached 2017 (n = 32). most common serovars Icterohaemorrhagiae and Poi.
