This paper describes a component-based framework for radio-astronomical imaging software systems. We consider optimal re-use strategies for packages of disparate architectures brought together within a modern component framework. In this practical case study, the legacy codes include both procedural and objectoriented architectures. We consider also the special requirements on scientific compon...

Methods have been proposed to re-design a clinical trial at an interim stage in order to increase power. In order to preserve the type I error rate, methods for unplanned design-change have to be defined in terms of non-sufficient statistics and this calls into question their efficiency and the credibility of conclusions reached. We evaluate schemes for adaptive re-design, extending the theoret...

This paper presents a piece of research from a broader project that explores the processes involved in the creation of “successful” new suburban development. Part of this involves exploring the way relationships might be conceptualised, valued and practiced in master planned estates. Current approaches to the development of master planned estates emphasise getting the morphology, design element...

background: inclusion of inhomogeneity corrections in intensity modulated small fields always makes conformal irradiation of lung tumor very complicated in accurate dose delivery. objective: in the present study, the performance of five algorithms via monte carlo, pencil beam, convolution, fast superposition and superposition were evaluated in lung cancer intensity modulated radiotherapy planni...

Re-exploration is one of the surgical complications of living donor liver transplantations. Re-explorations are of two types planned and unplanned. Unplanned re-exploration does always mean poor prognosis to the patient outcome? Was the aim of our study? We analysed retrospectively prospectively maintained data from Jan 2011 to August 2013. Total number of transplants done was 793. Total number...

This paper presents Prospector a front-end to the Google search engine which, using individual and group models of users’ interests, re-ranks search results to better suit the user’s inferred needs. The paper outlines the motivation behind the development of the system, describes its adaptive components, and discusses the lessons learned thus far, as well as the work planned for the future.

This paper investigates the most favorable conditions for a full defragmentation procedure when evolving from a fixed to a flexible-grid scenario. Results show that migrating legacy channels to flexible-grid formats can yield up to 50% more capacity for future traffic, provided these legacy channels are also spectrally re-planned.

To motivate this survey, we begin with a simple problem that demonstrates a powerful fundamental idea. Suppose that n balls are thrown into n bins, with each ball choosing a bin independently and uniformly at random. Then the maximum load, or the largest number of balls in any bin, is approximately log n= log logn with high probability.1 Now suppose instead that the balls are placed sequentiall...

Proxy re-encryption (PRE) was introduced by Blaze, Bleumer and Strauss [Eurocrypt ’98]. Basically, PRE allows a semi-trusted proxy to transform a ciphertext encrypted under one key into an encryption of the same plaintext under another key, without revealing the underlying plaintext. Since then, many interesting applications have been explored, and many constructions in various settings have be...
