Activation energies for the intermixing reaction of textured metal-metal multilayer thin films have been determined using x-ray diffraction analysis. Kinetic data were collected utilizing an area detector so as to reduce intensity bias from changes in out-of-plane texture during the intermixing reaction. Activation energies for Al/Pt, Ni/Ti, and Co/Al metal-metal multilayer thin films have been...

this thesis attempts to investigate the effects of prelistening activities on enhancing iranian efl learners` listening comprehension. the present study investigated ways in which learners` background knowledge could be activated in order to enhance their l2 listening comprehension by limiting the number of possible text interpretations prior to listening. the experiments conducted in this study examined the effect of prior knowledge and vocabulary teaching on iranian efl learners listening comprehension. the current study has two purposes: one is to investigate the effect of background knowledge on the second language listening comprehension of iranian intermediates and the other is to determine whether second language is facilitated by the introduction of unknown vocabularies in the form of prelistening activities. to conduct the study different instruments such as listening proficiency test and four listening tests such as pre and posttests were used and various statistical processes and techniques including paired-sample t-test, and analysis of variance (anova) were used. the findings of this study supported all three hypotheses tested. differences were found between the means of preteaching vocabulary variable, the background knowledge activation variable, and mean difference between these two strategies variable. subjects scored higher when the unknown words were taught in advance. likewise, subjects scored higher when they were asked some relevant questions about the topic than on those without them. there was, in addition, a significant difference between the means of preteaching vocabulary strategy and background knowledge activation strategy. in fact, preteaching vocabulary had a better effect in enhancing the students’ listening comprehension, in comparison to background knowledge activation strategy.

The experiments described in this paper have been designed to understand how particular dopants in alumina (Ca, Mg, Si, and Y) affect microstructural development through the energetics of their associated precipitates. Specifically, the role of the interphase boundary energy and precipitation activation energy are considered to be in competition with grain boundary complexion (disorder) transit...

We present a first-principles study of native defects in NaAlH4. Our analysis indicates that the structure and energetics of these defects can be interpreted in terms of elementary building blocks, which include VAlH4 + , VNa − , VH + , Hi , and H2 i. We also calculate migration barriers for several key defects, in order to compare enthalpies of diffusion to experimentally measured activation e...

The role of steps in the dissociation of molecules on metal surfaces has been extensively investigated in the past. In particular, both theoretical calculations and experimental results for H(2) dissociation on transition metal (TM) surfaces show that steps can significantly increase the reactivity, leading to higher metal-H binding energies and lower activation energies. Here we have used dens...

Determination of the MB isoenzyme of creatine kinase in patients with acute myocardial infarction may be disturbed by the presence of macro creatine kinase. The relative molecular mass of this form of creatine kinase in human serum is at least threefold that of the ordinary enzyme, and it is more thermostable. Here we describe our method for determination of macro creatine kinases and an easy-t...

The selective annealing of point defects with different activation energies is studied, by performing sequences of thermal treatments on gamma irradiated silica samples in the temperature range 300-450 °C. Our experiments show that the dependence on time of the concentration of two irradiation induced point defects in silica, named ODC(II) (standing for oxygen deficient centre II) and the E(γ)(...
