Stereophonic acoustic echo cancellation is one of the expanding areas in the field of the speech/multimedia communication systems. In a conventional stereophonic acoustic echo canceller, working in a stereo communication system, the existence of the strong cross-correlation between the input signals to the two channels has the problem of the low convergence speed of the weights of the adaptive ...

We discuss a membrane-based calculus for the combination of conceptual spaces during runtime. Since our goal is to support emergent properties of behavior (and due to the fact that it is not possible to define a complete calculus for all situations) we introduce the notion of self-modification. Terms from situational description can evolve according to simple rules thus providing various possib...

In this paper a method is presented for adding user modelling to existing software systems. The method consists of seven steps that lead from initial analysis to the definition and evaluation of the elements needed for the adaptive behaviour. Further the concept of an adaptation element is introduced. Such an adaptation element can be used to determine the impact of personalisations.

Successful coordination is a common and important social problem. Achieving it relies on the players’ ability to accurately anticipate future choices from known information. Individuals may not only lack this cognitive ability, but differ in it. Fictitious Play is an adaptive behavior where a myopic best response to the historical play of an opponent is selected. I consider the interaction betw...

1 Play behavior has been shown to occur in a surprisingly diverse range of animals, and yet relatively few details are known about the purpose of play in development, or the evolutionary history of play (Burghardt, 2006). This model uses the assumption that social play is an adaptive behavior, as described by Burghardt (2006), to focus on play's contribution toward the development of skill and ...

Adaptive eLearning systems are able to adjust to a user’s learning needs, usually by user modeling or tracking progress. Such learner-adaptive behavior has rapidly become a hot topic for eLearning. This contribution presents original research on using differences in individual learning styles. Factors related to performance, motivation, satisfaction, and previous knowledge were targeted and use...
