BACKGROUND Endovascular treatment of intracranial aneurysms can be technically difficult when the neck is wide. The Solitaire AB stent (Covidien, Irvine, California), the only fully retrieved stent, assists in the coiling of wide-neck intracranial aneurysms. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the mid-term angiographic follow-up of wide-necked aneurysms treated with the Solitaire AB stent. METHODS SOLARE...

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Genome-wide association studies have identified single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) for intracranial aneurysms in clinical samples. In addition, SNPs have been discovered for blood pressure, one of the strongest risk factors for intracranial aneurysms. We studied the role of these genetic variants on occurrence and size of unruptured intracranial aneurysms, discovered ...

UNLABELLED Paraclinoid aneurysms are lesions located adjacent to the clinoid and ophthalmic segments of the internal carotid artery. In recent years, flow diverter stents have been introduced as a better endovascular technique for treatment of these aneurysms. METHOD From 2009 to 2014, a total of 43 paraclinoid aneurysms in 43 patients were surgically clipped. We retrospectively reviewed the ...

An aneurysm is defined as a localized dilatation of a vessel of 50% of the normal diameter and includes all layers of the given vessel.1 Aortic aneurysms are divided into thoracic aortic aneurysms (TAAs), thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms (a thoracic aneurysm extending into the abdomen), and abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs). Abdominal aortic aneurysms are reportedly more common than TAAs. Demo...

OBJECTIVE Aneurysms originating from the proximal segment (A1) of the anterior cerebral artery are rare; however, because of their small size, the risk of injury of perforating arteries, and the location of the aneurysm in the surgical field, they are challenging to treat. We report on 15 patients with A1 aneurysms and review surgical views according to the direction of aneurysms. METHODS Fif...

AIM The prognosis of VBA aneurysms seems poor and surgical management of VBA dissecting aneurysms is challenging. We evaluated our endovascular experience in management of ruptured and unruptured VBA dissecting aneurysms. MATERIAL AND METHODS Eleven consecutive patients with eleven VBA aneurysms (3 ruptured and 8 unruptured) between 2008 and 2010 were retrospectively reviewed. RESULTS Immed...

A canine model of terminal aneurysms using a venous pouch surgical technique is described. This model mimics the anatomy and hemodynamics of some types of carotid and basilar tip aneurysms. This technique produces aneurysms 15 x 21 mm in size. The aneurysms have been used to investigate the hemodynamics and treatment of terminal aneurysms.

Splenic artery aneurysms account for about 60% of all visceral aneurysms. Pregnancy is a risk factor for splenic artery aneurysms rupture with high maternal mortality and fetal loss. Intrasplenic arterial aneurysms are extremely rare and have not been reported to be associated with pregnancy. This report presents a 34-year-old woman during the second trimester, admitted with severe left upper q...

Background and Purpose—Abnormal vascular remodeling triggered by hemodynamic stresses and inflammation is believed to be a key process in the pathophysiology of intracranial aneurysms. Numerous studies have shown infiltration of inflammatory cells, especially macrophages, into intracranial aneurysmal walls in humans. Using a mouse model of intracranial aneurysms, we tested whether macrophages p...
