BACKGROUND A number of randomized controlled trials have compared self-management of oral anticoagulant therapy with conventional management. However, the results have not appeared consistent and a systematic review and meta-analysis are therefore needed in order to evaluate self-management of oral anticoagulant therapy. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of self-mana...

Sixteen acceptably randomized studies of anticoagulant therapy after cerebral or retinal ischemia or infarction are reviewed and the results among 1,046 anticoagulated patients and 1,071 controls are analyzed. The following conclusions are derived. 1) Anticoagulant therapy has not been shown to be better than control management after transient ischemia or nonprogressing ischemic stroke; this is...

The periprocedural management of patients receiving long-term oral anticoagulant therapy remains a common but difficult clinical problem, with a lack of highquality evidence to inform best practices. It is a patient’s thromboembolic risk that drives the need for an aggressive periprocedural strategy, including the use of heparin bridging therapy, to minimize time off anticoagulant therapy, whil...

A case is described in which a circulating anticoagulant, inhibiting antihaemophilic globulin, developed following temporal arteritis. The circulating anticoagulant disappeared with steroid therapy, reappearing when steroids were withdrawn. Permanent maintenance therapy appears necessary in this case to prevent haemorrhagic manifestations.

Spinal vascular events related to Behçet's disease are relatively uncommon. Deep vein thrombosis is the most frequent vascular involvement. Anticoagulant therapy is a debated issue in Behçet's disease. In this case report, we present a patient with a delayed diagnosis of Behçet's disease after development of cervical epidural hematoma following anticoagulant therapy due to deep venous thrombosi...
