Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome is a serious complication of ovulation induction and has a diverse clinical spectrum from edema to thromboembolism. Antiphospholipid antibody syndrome, one of the well known hypercoagulable states, can be also manifested as an arterial or venous thrombosis and recurrent spontaneous abortion. Sometimes a patient with antiphospholipid antibodies might not notice ...

The presence of antiphospholipid antibodies is linked to an increased rate of repeated spontaneous abortions and fetal deaths, that in fact belong to the clinical spectrum of the antiphospholipid syndrome. The pathogenic role of antiphospholipid antibodies was clearly shown in experimental animals that, when infused during pregnancy, develop placental insufficiency and miscarriages. In addition...

Hepatitis C, a worldwide viral infection, is an important health problem in Brazil. The virus causes chronic infection, provoking B lymphocyte dysfunction, as represented by cryoglobulinemia, non-organ-specific autoantibody production, and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. The aim of this research was to screen for the presence of antiphospholipid autoantibodies in 109 Brazilian hepatitis C virus carrier...

The association of thrombosis and gestational morbidity with antiphospholipid antibodies is termed antiphospholipid syndrome (APS). Annexin 2 (A2) is a profibrinolytic endothelial cell surface receptor that binds plasminogen, its tissue activator (tPA), and beta(2)-glycoprotein I (beta2GPI), the main antigen for antiphospholipid antibodies. Here, we evaluate A2 as a target antigen in APS. Serum...

Catastrophic antiphospholipid syndrome (CAPS) is an acutely devastating situation characterized by widespread thrombotic microangiopathy in the presence of elevated titers of antiphospholipid antibodies. We describe a 57-year old woman who underwent liver transplantation for primary sclerosing cholangitis and developed this malignant variant of the antiphospholipid syndrome.

Antiphospholipid antibody syndrome (APS) is characterized by the development of venous and/or arterial thrombosis and gestational morbidity (recurrent fetal losses) in presence antiphospholipid antibodies. We report case a 38-year-old woman who was diagnosed with primary APS from thromboembolic abnormalities retinal periphery that led to ischemia. The aim this study share physicians medical und...

Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is typically characterized by increased levels of three classes antiphospholipid antibodies, namely lupus anticoagulant, anti-β2-glycoprotein I (anti-β2GPI), and anticardiolipin antibodies. β2-Glycoprotein (β2GPI) a phospholipid-binding protein composed five domains (DI–V) major antigen in APS. β2GPI expressed on the surfaces several cell types, including endothe...

Thyroid disorders are commonly associated with coagulopathy. Patients with hyperthyroidism have increased risk for developing thromboembolic accidents, which are favoured by a simultaneous presence of antiphospholipid antibodies syndrome. in this paper, we describe the case of a patient with Graves' disease, who developed strokes with antiphospholipid antibodies syndrome.

Chorea may occur as a neurological manifestation of systemic lupus erythematosus and is often associated with detection of antiphospholipid antibodies. No evidence of chorea as a sign of lupus activity has been established. We describe a patient with systemic lupus erythematosus associated with antiphospholipid antibodies who developed chorea, which has been considered a sign of lupus activity.

Annexin A5 (AnxA5) is a potent anticoagulant protein that crystallizes over phospholipid bilayers (PLBs), blocking their availability for coagulation reactions. Antiphospholipid antibodies disrupt AnxA5 binding, thereby accelerating coagulation reactions. This disruption may contribute to thrombosis and miscarriages in the antiphospholipid syndrome (APS). We investigated whether the antimalaria...
