This paper studies the two-machine flowshop scheduling problem with anticipatory setup times and an availability constraint imposed on only one of the machines where interrupted jobs can resume their operations. We present two heuristics and show that their worst-case error bounds are no larger than 2/3.

Distributed systems are of unprecedented interest and importance today. Their omnipresence pervades many aspects of our daily lives leading to an increasing demand for dependability of such systems, sometimes very critically as in systems for air traffic control or public safety. As systems are expected to continue functioning even in the presence of failures, fault-tolerance as one means to en...

This paper models a developing nation that faces a foreign exchange shortage and hence its demand for foreign goods is limited both by its income and its foreign exchange balance. Availability of international credit relaxes the second constraint. It is shown that in this setting the availability of intemational credit at concessionary rates can leave the borrowing nation worse off than if it h...

In this paper, we deal with a multi-level redundancy allocation problem for a multi-level system and system, modules and component levels in the system are simultaneously considered as candidates for redundancy. System availability and life cycle cost are used as the constraint and objective function, respectively, and are estimated by simulation. The level and degree of redundancy are determin...

This paper presents an algorithmic approach to the problem of detecting independently moving objects in 3D scenes that are viewed under camera motion. There are two fundamental constraints that can be exploited for the problem : (i) two/multi-view camera motion constraint (for instance, the epipolar/trilinear constraint) and (ii) shape constancy constraint. Previous approaches to the problem ei...

Since their introduction, local search algorithms – and in particular tabu search algorithms – have consistently represented the state-of-the-art in solution techniques for the classical job-shop scheduling problem. This is despite the availability of powerful search and inference techniques for scheduling problems developed by the constraint programming community. In this paper, we introduce a...

Bluetooth is developed for short range communication. Bluetooth Devices are normally having low power and low cost. This is a wireless communication technology designed to connect phones, laptops and PDAs. The greater availability of portable devices with Bluetooth connectivity imposes wireless connection between enabled devices. On an average the range of Bluetooth devices is about 10 meters. ...

Semi-supervised is the machine learning field. In the previous work, selection of pairwise constraints for semi-supervised clustering is resolved using active learning method in an iterative manner. Semi-supervised clustering derived from the pairwise constraints. The pairwise constraint depends on the two kinds of constraints such as must-link and cannot-link.In this system, enhanced iterative...
