We investigate an application of pattern structures for understanding episodes, which are labeled directed acyclic graphs representing event transitions. Since typical episode mining algorithms generate a huge number of similar episodes, we need to summarize them or to obtain compact representations of them for applying the outcome of mining to various problems. Though such problems have been w...

We describe the foundations of a system for rule-based programming which integrates two powerful mechanisms: (1) matching with context variables, sequence variables, and regular constraints for their matching values; and (2) strategic programming with labeled rules. The system is called ρLog, and is built on top of the pattern matching and rule-based programming capabilities of Mathematica.

Although pattern languages have already been proposed for security modelling, such languages mostly employ concepts and notations related to object-oriented systems, and have mainly neglected the agent-oriented paradigm. In this position paper we argue about the need to define a security pattern language applicable to agent-based systems that employs concepts based in the agent-oriented paradig...

In this paper, we conduct two experiments within an agent-based double auction market. These two experiments allows us to see the effect of learning and smartness on price dynamics and allocative efficiency. Our results is largely consistent with the stylized facts observed in experimental economics with human subjects. From the amelioration of price deviation and allocative efficiency, the eff...

Article history: Received 19 January 2016 Received in revised form 16 September 2016 Accepted 17 September 2016 Available online 15 October 2016 This paper presents an agent based model simulating animal tracking datasets for individual animals based on observed habitat use characteristics, movement behaviours and environmental context. The model is presented as an alternative simulation method...

In this paper a not too unrealistic example of analogical case-based reasoning is presented first. Then this example is analysed with the help of an existing model of case-based reasoning. After that the model is extended with a few more complex logical mechanisms known from general theories of legal argumentation. This extension turns out to allow for a number of new patterns of reasoning on a...

Modellers have had to wrestle with an unavoidable trade-off between the demand of a general theoretical approach and the descriptive accuracy required to model a particular phenomenon. A new class of simulation models has shown to be well adapted to this challenge, basically by shifting outwards this trade-off: So-called agent-based models (ABMs henceforth) are increasingly used for the modelli...

Previous academic research has identified the correlation between special events and crime rates within cities. However, in much of the previous work, the focus was either on spatial or temporal analysis related to the evolution of local crime patterns in conjunction with the special events. This research uses a hybrid agent-based simulation to examine the impact of temporal pulse events on the...

We introduce a framework for knowledge-based sequence mining, based on Answer Set Programming (ASP). We begin by modeling the basic task and refine it in the sequel in several ways. First, we show how easily condensed patterns can be extracted by modular extensions of the basic approach. Second, we illustrate how ASP’s preference handling capacities can be exploited for mining patterns of inter...
