Glass reinforced thermosetting composite materials are now widely usUUed in building and construction applications. However, the adoption of Boron and Kevlar based composite materials in this industry has been very slow, and the main reasons are lack of previous experiences to assess the durability of such composite products and understanding of their properties by designers. In order to fill t...
electro-thermo-elastic stress analysis of piezoelectric polymeric thick-walled cylinder reinforced by boronnitride nanotubes (bnnts) subjected to electro-thermo-mechanical fields is presented in this article. the electro-thermo-elastic properties of piezoelectric fiber reinforced composite (pefrc) was studied by a modified xy micromechanical model capable of exhibiting full coupling relation be...
abstract: electrical sensitivity of a boron nitride nanotube (bnnt) was examined toward pyrrole (c5h6n) molecule by using density functional theory (dft) calculations at the b3lyp/6-31g (d) level, and it was found that the adsorption energy (ead) of pyrrole on the pristine nanotubes is a bout -16.37kcal/mol. but when nanotube have been doped with si and al atomes, the adsorption energy of pyrro...
Inspired by the layered hierarchical nano- and microstructures of natural nacre, flattened double-walled carbon nanotube (FDWCNT) reinforced epoxy composites are fabricated. Impressively, the prepared composites exhibit layered structures analogous to nacre, and the FDWCNT loading can reach 70 wt%, which results in superior mechanical properties that evidently outperform other existing materials.
This review summarises the research work carried out in the field of carbon nanotube (CNT) metal matrix composites (MMCs). Much research has been undertaken in utilising CNTs as reinforcement for composite material. However, CNT-reinforced MMCs have received the least attention. These composites are being projected for use in structural applications for their high specific strength as well as f...
In this letter we extend previously established results for nested carbon nanocones to both nested boron nitride and carbon-boron nitride nanocones. Based purely on mechanical principles and classical mathematical modelling techniques, we determine the energetically favourable structures for nested boron nitride and carbon-boron nitride nanocones. While only three apex angles for boron nitride ...
The pristine boron nitride nanotubes have a large direct band gap around 5 eV. This band gap can be engineered by doping. We investigate electronic structure of the doped hexagonal boron nitride (5,5) nanotubes using the linearized augmented cylindrical wave method. In particular, this work focuses on systematical study of the band gap and the density of states around the Fermi-level when the n...
The onset of electrical percolation in nanotube-reinforced composites is often modeled by considering the geometric percolation of a system of penetrable, straight, rigid, capped cylinders, or spherocylinders, despite the fact that embedded nanotubes are not straight and do not penetrate one another. In Part I of this work we investigated the applicability of the soft-core model to the present ...
Metal matrix composite coatings reinforced with nano-particles have attracted scientific and technological interest due to the enhanced properties exhibited by these coatings. Cobalt/hexagonal boron nitride nano-composite coatings were prepared by means of the pulse current electroplating from a chloride electrolyte on copper substrates and a comparison was made with the pure cobalt in terms of...
