Brain Computer Interfaces (BCI) are a natural extension to Human Computer Interaction (HCI) technologies. BCI is especially useful for people suffering from diseases, such as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) which cause motor disabilities in patients. To evaluate the effectiveness of BCI in different paradigms, the need of benchmark BCI datasets is increasing rapidly. Although, such datasets...
We report on an extended robot control application of a contact-less and airborne ultrasonic tactile display (AUTD) stimulus-based brain-computer interface (BCI) paradigm, which received last year The Annual BCI Research Award 2014. In the award winning human communication augmentation paradigm the six palm positions are used to evoke somatosensory brain responses, in order to define a novel co...
In this study, a novel control algorithm, based on a P300-based brain-computer interface (BCI) is fully developed to control a 2-DoF robotic arm. Eight subjects including 5 men and 3 women perform a 2-dimensional target tracking in a simulated environment. Their EEG (Electroencephalography) signals from visual cortex are recorded and P300 components are extracted and evaluated to perform a real...
The paper presents an EEG-based wireless brain-computer interface (BCI) with which subjects can mindspell text on a computer screen. The application is based on detecting steady-state visual evoked potentials (SSVEP) in EEG signals recorded on the scalp of the subject. The performance of the BCI is compared for two different classification paradigms: synchronous and asynchronous modes.
The idea of robotic therapy has been considered as a possible rehabilitation strategy to facilitate recovery the patients with disability and it can represent an efficient treatment. Brain-computer interface (BCI) is known advanced technology great potential in therapeutic assistive robots. This paper presented review application BCI systems through combination electroencephalography (EEG) func...
We perceive that some Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) researchers believe in totally different origins of invasive and non-invasive electrical BCI signals. Based on available literature we argue, however, that although invasive and non-invasive BCI signals are different, the underlying origin of electrical BCIs signals is the same.
In order to bring Brain Computer Interface systems from research laboratories to end users’ homes several factors should be considered and improved. This work aimed to assess performances during repeated ERPs-based BCI sessions in the same day mimicking the use of BCI system as communication aid. Preliminary findings highlighted a daily variability of BCI performances.
Brain computer interface (BCI) is a promising way for automatic driving and exploring brain functions. As the number of electrodes electroencephalogram (EEG) acquisition continues to grow, signal processing capabilities BCI are facing challenges. Considering bottlenecks Von Neumann architecture, it increasingly difficult traditional digital computing pattern meet requirements EEG in terms power...
bci is one of the most intriguing technologies among other hci systems, mostly because of its capability of recording brain activities. spelling bcis, which help paralyzed people to maintain communication, are one of the striking topics in the field of bci. in this scientific a spelling bci system with high transfer rate and accuracy that uses ssvep signals is proposed. in addition, we suggeste...
In this paper we introduce the concept of Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) inhibitor, which is meant to standby the BCI until the user is ready, in order to improve the overall performance and usability of the system. BCI inhibitor can be defined as a system that monitors user’s state and inhibits BCI interaction until specific requirements (e.g. brain activity pattern, user attention level) are ...
