A Steiner type formula for continuous translation invariant Minkowski valuations is established. In combination with a recent result on the symmetry of rigid motion invariant homogeneous bivaluations, this new Steiner type formula is used to obtain a family of Brunn-Minkowski type inequalities for rigid motion intertwining Minkowski valuations.
This is a survey of the recent progress and open questions on the structure of the sets of 0-1 and non-negative integer matrices with prescribed row and column sums. We discuss cardinality estimates, the structure of a random matrix from the set, discrete versions of the Brunn-Minkowski inequality and the statistical dependence between row and column sums.
We develop an information-theoretic perspective on some questions in convex geometry, providing for instance a new equipartition property for log-concave probability measures, some Gaussian comparison results for log-concave measures, an entropic formulation of the hyperplane conjecture, and a new reverse entropy power inequality for log-concave measures analogous to V. Milman’s reverse Brunn-M...
A precise description of the convexity of Gaussian measures is provided by sharp Brunn-Minkowski type inequalities due to Ehrhard and Borell. We show that these are manifestations of a game-theoretic mechanism: a minimax variational principle for Brownian motion. As an application, we obtain a Gaussian improvement of Barthe’s reverse Brascamp-Lieb inequality.
A sharp quantitative version of the anisotropic isoperimetric inequality is established, corresponding to a stability estimate for the Wulff shape of a given surface tension energy. This is achieved by exploiting mass transportation theory, especially Gromov’s proof of the isoperimetric inequality and the Brenier-McCann Theorem. A sharp quantitative version of the Brunn-Minkowski inequality for...
The aim of this paper is to motivate the development of a Brunn-Minkowski theory for minimal surfaces. In 1988, H. Rosenberg and E. Toubiana studied a sum operation for finite total curvature complete minimal surfaces in R3 and noticed that minimal hedgehogs of R3 constitute a real vector space [14]. In 1996, the author noticed that the square root of the area of minimal hedgehogs of R3 that ar...
We prove a quantitative stability result for the Brunn-Minkowski inequality: if |A| = |B| = 1, t ∈ [τ, 1−τ ] with τ > 0, and |tA+(1−t)B| ≤ 1+δ for some small δ, then, up to a translation, both A and B are quantitatively close (in terms of δ) to a convex set K.
Example 1.2. a) Let X = R and take d(x, y) = |x − y|. This is the most basic and important example. b) More generally, let N ≥ 1, let X = R , and take d(x, y) = ||x − y|| = √∑N i=1(xi − yi). It is very well known but not very obvious that d satisfies the triangle inequality. This is a special case of Minkowski’s Inequality, which will be studied later. c) More generally let p ∈ [1,∞), let N ≥ 1...
