introduction: this study compared the root canal microbial count of necrotic teeth after irrigation with 6% sodium hypochlorite (naocl) (single session treatment) and two-session root canal treatment with two-week application of calcium hydroxide (ch) mixed with 0.2% chlorhexidine (chx) as intracanal medicament. methods and materials: in this randomized clinical trial, single-rooted necrotic te...
AIM To evaluate and compare antimicrobial effect of various root canal medicaments against Enterococcus faecalis, Staphylococcus aureus and Candida albicans. MATERIALS AND METHODS Six root canal medicaments: 2% sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl), 2% chlorhexidine (CHX) Calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2), EDTA, MTAD and propolis and three microorganisms: Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus faecalis and Cand...
PURPOSE The aim of this study is to analyze the consumption patterns of medicaments among motor vehicle drivers who attend 'Medical Driving Test Centres' and the relation between habitual consumption of medicaments and fitness to drive. METHODS The study was carried out on 8043 drivers who attended 25 Medical Driving Test Centres. RESULTS 24.7% of drivers chronically consume medicaments whi...
OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to evaluate the antimicrobial effect of chlorhexidine gel (CHX-G) 2%, chlorhexidine powder (CHX-P) 1%, povidone-iodine (PVP-I), polyhexanide and camphorated-and-mentholated chlorophenol (ChKM) ex vivo. MATERIALS AND METHODS For every medicament group 10 root segments (15 mm long) of extracted human teeth were prepared to ISO-size 45 and sterilized (n = 50)....
INTRODUCTION The aim of this in vitro study was to compare the effectiveness of three intracanal medicaments in disinfecting the root canal and dentin of experimentally infected human teeth with Enterococcus faecalis (EF). MATERIALS AND METHODS One hundred extracted human single-rooted teeth were used. After root canal preparation, teeth were mounted in epoxy resin. Following sterilization, t...
BACKGROUND Pain experience makes a serious anxiety for both patient and clinician before and after root canal treatment. Pain is a complex psychophysiologic phenomenon. OBJECTIVES The aim of this randomized control trial study was to evaluate the analgesic effect of Odontopaste® and a corticosteroid containing compound medicament between root canal therapy appointments. MATERIALS AND METHOD...
Objective: The goal of endodontic treatment is to eliminate bacteria and their products from the root canal. Bacteria are main etiological factors pulpal periapical diseases. Chemomechanical preparation administration canal medicaments cannot completely in system, especially Enterococcus faecalis, which have high resistancy, therefore, an ideal obturation material required. Adequate filling qua...
Root canal treatment encompasses thorough cleaning and shaping of the canal. Cleaning is achieved through proper instrumentation and irrigation for debridement and dis infection of the root canal system in addition to creating a suitable shape for complete three dimensional obtura tion. Various irrigants and medicaments have been used for cleaning root canals with different results. These in...
Pseudomonas aeruginosa was recovered from three hospital-prepared medicaments being used on the wards. Sixty-six patients were studied to observe the effect of using these contaminated medicaments. Psaeruginosa was recovered from 29 patients; in five the strains recovered bore a close resemblance to strains previously isolated from the contaminated medicaments.
