Double crush syndrome is a distinct compression at two or more locations along the course of a peripheral nerve that can coexist and synergistically increase symptom intensity. In addition, dissatisfaction after treatment at one site may be the result of persistent pathology at another site along a peripheral nerve. Double crush syndrome is a controversial diagnosis; some scientists and surgeon...

Direct percutaneous stimulation of the proximal sciatic nerve with a high voltage electrical stimulator was given to a patient with acute sciatic compression neuropathy. Results clearly showed a focal conduction block at the sciatic notch, which could not be precisely localised and quantified by conventional electrodiagnostic methods.

particularly in patients for whom instability and the potential for nonunion are increased (e.g., in those with neuropathy. There are current fixation options such as custom anatomically designed midfoot plates which provide stability as well as locking and compression capacity (Maxlock, Orthohelix, Akron OH, and DePuy, Warsaw IN). A novel alternative for fixation is using an intramedullary sys...

Trigger finger at wrist is a rare condition. Symptoms include finger triggering, snapping or catching at the wrist level. Carpal tunnel syndrome and median nerve compression neuropathy are almost always associated. We reported one case which was caused by degenerative changes of the flexor tendon sheath and carpal tunnel syndrome.

Peripheral neuropathy is not uncommon in ovarian cancer. The incidence density of peripheral neuropathy was 21.5 per 1000 person-years in ovarian cancer, 15.3 per 1000 person-years in breast cancer and 18.3 per 1000 person-years in lung cancer for patients who received platinum-taxane combination chemotherapy (Nurgalieva et al., 2010). Carboplatin/paclitaxel is the chemotherapy of choice for ad...

Unilateral central or centrocaecal scotoma may result from optic nerve compression. However, such defects bilaterally usually indicate non-compressive optic neuropathy of toxic or nutritional, hereditary, or demyelinating origin. Three cases are reported of patients who presented with somewhat atypical bilateral central or centrocaecal scotomata and were found to have suprasellar mass lesions d...

Description of Procedure or Service Quantitative sensory testing (QST) systems are used for the noninvasive assessment and quantification of sensory nerve function in patients with symptoms of or the potential for neurologic damage or disease. Pain conditions evaluated may include diabetic neuropathy and uremic and toxic neuropathies, complex regional pain syndrome, carpal tunnel syndrome, and ...

Mononeuropathy multiplex is a rare disorder associated with idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura. Extrinsic compression due to hematoma, intraneural bleed and immune mediated nerve injury are reported mechanisms of neuropathy. We report of a case of a girl with recurrent idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura with mononeuropathy multiplex, along with a brief review of the mechanism of neuropathies ...

Hereditary neuropathy with liability to pressure palsy (HNPP) is an autosomal dominant disease with sensory and motor nerve palsies usually precipitated by trivial trauma or compression. In the majority of cases HNPP is caused by deletion of the peripheral myelin protein 22 gene (PMP22) on chromosome 17p11.2. The authors present a family case with genetically proven HNPP.

The purpose of this study was to characterize the severe postoperative irreversible visual loss induced by optic neuropathy in some children with a brain tumor. The computerized database (2003-2008) of a neuro-ophthalmology service of a major pediatric tertiary center was reviewed for all children with severe irreversible visual loss (counting fingers or less) due to brain-tumor-related optic n...
