Myiasis is due to the opportunistic dipterous larvae feeding on viable or necrotic tissues of the host occurring throughout the world. We report a case of oral myiasis in an immune-compromised patient suffering from non-Hodgkin lymphoma. We would like to emphasize that such ectoparasitic infections may happen in immunocompromised patients and oral hygiene should be evaluated in all of these pat...

Dysgonic fermenter-2 (DF-2) is a newly described gram-negative bacterium that can produce serious infections in the compromised host. We are reporting a case of DF-2 septicaemia in a splenectomized patient with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia. The clinical spectrum of infections due to the DF-2 bacterium, the difficulties in establishing the diagnosis and the preferential treatment are discussed.

Predicting and constraining RNA virus evolution require understanding the molecular factors that define the mutational landscape accessible to these pathogens. RNA viruses typically have high mutation rates, resulting in frequent production of protein variants with compromised biophysical properties. Their evolution is necessarily constrained by the consequent challenge to protein folding and f...

Among the fungal pathogens the species Fusariam solani causing systemic infection is very rare and generally causes systemic infection only in an immuno-compromised host. We report a systemic infection caused by F. solani in a non-immunocompromised adult male, to our knowledge the first such case report.

the relationship between female oviposition preference and offspring performance is a key area of study on the evolution of host specificity. this study investigates host prefer-ence of the polyphagous hover fly syrphus ribesii (diptera: syrphidae) and compares it with some components of its offspring`s performance. females and offspring were tested on six naturally used aphid hosts (blackberry...

Abstract Malnutrition is a global concern since it affects 130 million children under the age of 5 worldwide. The child’s immunity brutally compromised, making them susceptible to various diseases and infections, leading high mortality rate. Multiple strategies have been implemented strengthen in with compromised immunity, such as rendering balanced diet, fortifying food, dietary supplements, i...

In the early months of 2006 a small private network (the Network) suffered a noticeable degrading of its network performance. A network traffic capture and analysis was conducted and used to investigate the network performance issues. This paper presents partial results of that analysis. The network traffic capture formed part of an experimental use of the SilkTools tm [1] capture and analysis ...

Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) is a fatal demyelinating disease of the central nervous system that predominantly affects immunocompromised individuals. The etiologic agent, JCV, is a widespread polyomavirus with a very specific target, the myelin-producing oligodendrocytes of the brain. During periods of immune suppression, the virus can be reactivated from lymphoid tissues an...

In an effort to delineate the clinical characteristics of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection in the compromised host, we compared children with bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), congenital heart disease (CHD), premature birth, failure to thrive, and gastroesophageal reflux to previously healthy children. During a four-year period, 262 patients were admitted to the hospital with RSV inf...

the study of tumor viruses paves the way for understanding the mechanisms of virus pathogenesis, including those involved in establishing infection and dissemination in the host tumor affecting immune-compromised patients. the processes ranging from viral infection to progressing malignancy are slow and usually insufficient for establishment of transformed cells that develop cancer in only a mi...
