Ii The technique or speckle interferometric measurement of asteroids is applied to Vesta and Pallas, yielding diameters of 550"-23 and 673 +-55 kin, respectively. The improved ._ Vesta speckle diameter is in excellent agreement with other measurements for Vesta. However, 6 ~ the derived Pallas diameter is slightly larger than other measurements. This is perhaps attributable to systematic errors...

A species of sucking louse, Neohaematopinus callosciuri, was found for the first time in Japan. The species was found on an invasive species of squirrel, Pallas squirrel, Callosciurus erythraeus, in the Kamakura district, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. A total of 52 lice were obtained from 22 of 104 squirrels captured. The lice were about three times more prevalent in male squirrels than in female...

In the present study, some ecological factors were studied for Amphipoda at different depths. The Shannon, Margalef, and Hill indices were used to determine the  species diversity, richness and evenness, respectively. In addition, the association and niche overlap values were estimated. Indices of species richness and diversity were highest at 50 and 100m depths, respectively.  The ordination o...

Subarctic ecohydrological processes are changing rapidly, but detailed and integrated investigations not as widespread necessary. We introduce an research catchment site (Pallas) for atmosphere, ecosystems, ecohydrology studies in subarctic conditions Finland that can be used a new set of comparative investigations. The Pallas provides unique observational data high-intensity field measurement ...

In June 2011, 34 specimens of round goby (Neogobius melanostomus) were caught at three different locations in the Sava River in Croatia, which is a first record of this invasive species in Danube tributaries in Croatia. Size, structure and condition of populations indicate that the species is well adjusted to its new habitat and that further range expansions are highly likely.

Over 5 years (2000-2004), populations of small mammals from a rural landscape in southern Moravia (Czech Republic) were investigated for the presence of Tula virus (TULV) antigen using the ELISA set Hantagnost. In total, 1566 individuals from 10 species were examined. The prevalence in the common vole (Microtus arvalis Pallas 1778), the main reservoir of TULV, was 10% (n = 871). The prevalence ...

Three years of continuous measurements of aerosol optical properties and simultaneous aerosol number size distribution measurements at Pallas GAW station, a remote subarctic site in the northern border of the boreal forest zone, have been analysed. The scattering coefficient at 550 nm varied from 0.2 to 94.4 Mm−1 with an average of 7.1±8.6 Mm−1. Both the scattering and backscattering coefficien...

A new set of ephemerides for 15 of the largest asteroids has been produced for use in the Astronomical Almanac. The ephemerides cover the period from 1800 through 2100. The internal uncertainty in the mean longitude at epoch, 1997 December 18, ranges from for 7 Iris through for 65 Cybele, and 0A.05 0A.22 the uncertainty in the mean motion varies from per century for 4 Vesta to per century for 5...

The squirrel Callosciurus erythraeus (Pallas) (Rodentia: Sciuridae) was intentionally introduced to Japan in 1935 and has become established throughout much of the country. Although they live mainly in forests, Pallas squirrels come into gardens and are frequently fed by people or kept as pets, so their ectoparasites could be of potential medical as well as veterinary importance. During 2001-20...
