This paper proposes a new control method for telecommunications networks based on chaotic dynamics. Self-similar behaviour has been observed in a variety of services and networks. ATM is a unifying vehicle for transporting a wide range of traffic streams, and hence is a focus for assessing the impact of self similarity on networks. Chaotic maps have been used to model self-similar traffic. Usin...

Systems of strongly coupled chaotic maps generically exhibit collective behavior emerging out of extensive chaos. We show how the well-known renormalization group (RG) of unimodal maps can be extended to the coupled systems, and in particular to coupled map lattices (CMLs) with local diffusive coupling. The RG relation derived for CMLs is nonperturbative, i.e., not restricted to a particular cl...

We review the basic steps leading to the construction of a Sinai-Ruelle-Bowen (SRB) measure for an innnite lattice of weakly coupled expanding circle maps, and we show that this measure has exponential decay of space-time correlations. First, using the Perron-Frobenius operator, one connects the dynamical system of coupled maps on a d-dimensional lattice to an equilibrium statistical mechanical...

We present a method to reduce the [FORMULA: SEE TEXT] dynamics of coupled map lattices (CMLs) of N invertibly coupled unimodal maps to a sequence of N-bit symbols. We claim that the symbolic description is complete and provides for the identification of all fixed points, periodic orbits, and dense orbits as well as an efficient representation for studying pattern formation in CMLs. We give our ...

We prove a local limit theorem for Lipschitz continuous observables on a weakly coupled lattice of piecewise expanding interval maps. The core of the paper is a proof that the spectral radii of the Fourier-transfer operators for such a system are strictly less than 1. This extends the approach of [KL06] where the ordinary transfer operator was studied.

We study the spatially synchronized and temporally periodic solutions of a 1-d lattice of coupled sine circle maps. We carry out an analytic stability analysis of this spatially synchronized and temporally periodic case and obtain the stability matrix in a neat block diagonal form. We find spatially synchronized behaviour over a substantial range of parameter space. We have also extended the an...
