The computing resources used in safety-critical systems have stringent timing requirements due to mission critical nature of their tasks. A fault in these systems could lead to mission failure and catastrophic consequences. To avoid this various redundancy schemes are built in to mission critical applications to ensure the overall success of the system. The usual industrial practice is to emplo...

With the growth in continuous energy demand, high-voltage Multi-Terminal DC (MTDC) systems are technically and economically feasible to transmit bulk power integrate additional sources. However, high vulnerability of MTDC faults, especially pole-to-pole (P2P) is challenging. The development fault ride-through techniques such as circuit breakers still challenging due their cost complex operation...

This article presents a study on efficient dependability evaluation via fault injection using an extension of the True Time network simulator. The experimental results were obtained for checking and comparing fault tolerant aspects of CAN and TTCAN safety critical network interfaces.

We present a semantics for fault tree analysis, a technique used for the analysis of safety critical systems, in the real-time interval logic Duration Calculus with Liveness and show how properties of fault trees can be checked automatically. We apply this technique in two examples and show how it can be connected to other verification techniques.

In order to use the FTT-CAN protocol (Flexible Time-Triggered communication over Controller Area Network) in safety-critical applications, the impact of network errors and node failures must be thoroughly determined and minimized. This paper presents and discusses fault-tolerance techniques to limit that impact. The particular configuration of the communication system can be more or less comple...

This paper presents an innovative application of IEEE 1149.4 and the Integrated Diagnostic Reconfiguration (IDR) method to an Automotive Electronic Control Unit implemented as a fully-integrated mixed-signal system. The IEEE1149.4 test structure has been embedded and used on-line for interconnect monitoring and signal analysis; this provides higher resolution failure diagnostics enabling locali...

Fault diagnosis techniques for digital integrated circuits have been classified into three categories: static (using pre-computed information), dynamic (using simulation at run-time) and integrated (using a combination of pre-computed information and simulation). This paper presents our research in all three areas. We first present our tree-based theoretical framework, which improves static fau...

Fault trees provide a graphical and logical framework for analyzing the reliability of systems. A fault tree provides a conceptually simple modeling framework to represent the system-level interactions between component reliabilities. Dynamic fault trees have been shown particularly useful for reliability analysis of embedded computer systems. Dynamic fault trees are a superset of traditional (...

Four black-box fault models are introduced in the paper. The test generation task for the black-box model is more complicated, because possible realizations of the design must be taken into account. However, the time required to generate tests is not very critical factor, because the test generation can be done in parallel with the circuit synthesis process without a prolongation of Time-to-Mar...

Network fault tolerance is one of the most important capabilities required by mission-critical systems such as the naval Combat System Data Network (CSDN). In this paper, we present performance evaluation results of a fault-tolerant network scheme called Recursive Scalable Autonomous Faulttolerant Ethernet (RSAFE). The primary goal of RSAFE scheme is to provide network scalability, and autonomo...
