One specimen of an un-described species of pontoniine shrimp of the genus Laomenes Clark, 1919, Laomenes albonigrus sp. nov., was collected from a crinoid host from Ashmore Reef, Western Australia, and is now described and illustrated.
In recent years the systematic position of genera in the shrimp families Gnathophyllidae and Hymenoceridae has been under debate, with phylogenetic studies suggesting the families are not real family level units. Here, we review the molecular evidence as well as the morphological characters used to distinguish both families, leading to the conclusion that neither family is valid. Further, we st...
A new pontoniine shrimp species, Cuapetes yapiensis, from mangroves at Quamun, on Yap Island, Caroline Islands, is described and illustrated. Cuapetes yapiensis most closely resembles C. darwiniensis Bruce. Six species of Cuapetes are now known from the Caroline Islands.
Five new species from the squat lobster family Chirostylidae are described from the continental margin of western Australia: Uroptychus albus sp. nov., Uroptychus bardi sp. nov., Uroptychus jawi sp. nov., Uroptychus taylorae sp. nov., and Uroptychus worrorra sp. nov. New records of Indo-West Pacific species for Australia are: Gastroptychus brachyterus Baba, 2005, Gastroptychus investigatoris Al...
An undescribed species of pontoniine shrimp of the genus Nippontonia Bruce & Bauer, N. ashmoriensis sp. nov., collected from a sponge from Ashmore Reef, Western Australia, is described and illustrated.
1 year and the receiving system batteries are replaced by divers at intervals of up to 4 weeks. In field tests, crab (Cancer pagurus L.) and lobster (Homarus gammarus (L.)) activity was monitored at an artificial reef for 14 months. Examples of the type of information acquired are presented to illustrate the capabilities of the system and potential applications are discussed. Limitations of dig...
Eight species of Brachyura and two species of Anomura were registered for the first time on the Santa Catarina coast, in the waters around the Arvoredo Marine Biological Reserve. The animals were collected by scuba divers, between 3 and 22 meters depth, from September 2001 to February 2003. A total of 31 decapod species were collected, and most of the new occurrences had already been registered...
New tools for analysis of oscillatory networks using phase response theory (PRT) under the assumption of pulsatile coupling have been developed steadily since the 1980s, but none have yet allowed for analysis of mixed systems containing nonoscillatory elements. This caveat has excluded the application of PRT to most real systems, which are often mixed. We show that a recently developed tool, th...
Low support values and lack of reproducibility of molecular phylogenetic analysis of Copepoda orders
Abstract Reanalysis of the dataset used by Khodami et al. (2017) reveals low support values for key nodes copepod (Crustacea) phylogeny and fails to reproduce results obtained in study. Maximum likelihood (ML) Bayesian analyses with produce phylogenies that are inconsistent branching groups proposed (2017). The is refuted approximately unbiased (AU) statistical test, which undermines several co...
A new species of callianassid shrimp genus Nihonotrypaea Manning & Tamaki, 1998 (Crustacea: Decapoda: Axiidea: Callianassidae) is described from the Peter the Great Bay, Primorye, Russian coast of the Sea of Japan. The species clearly differs from other representatives of the genus by unique armature of ventral margin of merus and different form of carpus of major cheliped in males and yellow-g...
