This paper presents the key factors driving successful software development in NRENs and reasons that may cause defective software production. This article is focused on the characteristic of the software development in a multi-domain environment. Basing on lessons learnt from GÉANTX projects, we present several good practices in software development that lead to valuable software product.

Blocked mutants of Micromonospora echinospora defective in the production of the potent antitumor agent calicheamicin are described. Analysis of intermediates produced by blocked mutants indicates a branched biosynthetic pathway. Mutants that produced some, but not all, calicheamicin forms are also described.

The replication of human immunodeficiency retroviruses involves a complex series of events that is regulated at both transcriptional and posttranscriptional levels. The tat gene product is a potent trans-activator of viral transcription and therefore an attractive target for the development of antiviral drugs. Tat-defective HIV-1 proviral DNA clones have been shown previously to be replication ...

The problem of scheduling the production of new and recoverable defective items of the same product manufactured on the same facility is studied. Items are processed in batches. Each batch comprises two sub-batches processed consecutively. In the first subbatch, all the items are newly manufactured. Some of them are of the required good quality and some are defective. The defective items are re...

Thirteen of 14 temperature-sensitive mutants deficient in successive steps of mitotic chromosome transmission (cdc2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 20) from spindle pole body separation to a late stage of nuclear division exhibited a dramatic increase in the frequency of chromosome loss and/or mitotic recombination when they were grown at their maximum permissive temperatures. The inc...

The recent surge in using social media has created a massive amount of unstructured textual complaints about products and services. However, discovering and quantifying potential product defects from large amounts of unstructured text is a nontrivial task. In this paper, we develop a probabilistic defect model (PDM) that identifies the most critical product issues and corresponding product attr...

We have characterized by T1 fingerprint analysis several defective interfering (DI) double-stranded RNAs of the simple yeast virus ScV. A common sequence of about 0.5 to 0.6 kilobase pairs, including both 3' termini of the parental RNA, was present in each DI RNA. Several DI RNAs had novel T1 oligonucleotides not present in their parental RNA.
