Bis(octacyanophthalocyanine)dysprosium(III) (1) has been synthesised, characterised and magnetically studied. By the incorporation of cyano substituents on the phthalocyanine (Pc) rings, a starting point has been created for the chemical modification of double deckers for the purpose of surface self-assembly. The modification of the rings leaves the magnetic properties of the double decker larg...

A dysprosium(iii) complex, exhibiting slow relaxation of magnetization, was prepared. Crystallographic studies showed a perturbation of local symmetry upon deprotonation of the ligand, with concomitant faster relaxation of magnetization. This was attributed to a large shift in the direction of the main magnetic axis, as indicated by ab initio calculations.

We discuss the impact of strong absorption for thermal neutrons on data analysis and compare absorption corrections in the GSAS and MAUD Rietveld codes for texture and structural parameter refinement. Diffraction data were collected on the neutron powder diffractometer HIPPO at LANSCE from dysprosium and erbium, which are moderate to strong absorbers for thermal neutrons with absorption cross-s...

A dysprosium(III) sandwich complex, [Dy(III)(COT″)(2)Li(THF)(DME)], was synthesized using 1,4-bis(trimethylsilyl)cyclooctatetraenyl dianion (COT″). The complex behaves as a single-ion magnet and demonstrates unusual multiple relaxation modes. The observed relaxation pathways strongly depend on the applied static dc fields.

Two unprecedented 3d-4f hexagonal metallo-rings {Ln(24)Cu(36)} (Ln = Dy and Gd) with a diagonal dimension of about 4.6 nm were facilely synthesized by self-assembly of Cu(II), Ln(III) nitrates and benzoate in the presence of triethylamine. Magnetic studies show slow relaxation behaviour for the dysprosium analogue and a large magnetocaloric effect (MCE) for the gadolinium analogue.

The purpose of this study was the dosimetric evaluation of thermoluminescent detectors of calcium sulphate doped with dysprosium (CaSO4:Dy) produced by IPEN compared to the TL response of lithium fluoride doped with magnesium and titanium (LiF:Mg,Ti) dosimeters and microdosimeters produced by Harshaw Chemical Company to clinical photon beams dosimetry (6 and 15 MV) using liquid water and PMMA p...

The initial employment of a triketone ligand in 4f coordination chemistry afforded a series of dinuclear complexes. Magnetic studies revealed that an antiferromagnetic interaction exists in a digadolinium(III) compound, while a dysprosium(III) constructed complex exhibits single-molecule magnet (SMM) behaviour at low temperatures with an energy barrier of 86.8 K.

A spiropyran-based switchable ligand isomerizes upon reaction with lanthanide(III) precursors to generate complexes with an unusual N3 O5 coordination sphere. The air-stable dysprosium(III) complex shows a hysteresis loop at 2 K and a very strong axial magnetic anisotropy generated by the merocyanine phenolate donor.

High-resolution 13C NMR has been used to structurally characterize a single isomer possessing C2 molecular symmetry as well as an inseparable mixture of other isomers of [92]fullerene, produced from dysprosium arc-burned soot, separated and isolated via multi-stage recycling HPLC.
