Twenty-five patients with 29 episodes of active systemic lupus erythematosus with central nervous system involvement were studied according to a uniform protocol. Brain scans were found to be abnormal in all patients studied, and electroencephalograms were abnormal in 20/25 patients. Serial brain scanning was found to be useful in the diagnosis of exacerbations and the monitoring of corticoster...
OBJECTIVE To describe clinical features and diagnostic tests of the MM2 cortical subtype in sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. METHODS Clinical symptoms, magnetic resonance imaging studies, electroencephalograms, and cerebrospinal fluid markers were studied in 12 patients with genetically and neuropathologically verified sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. Histological findings were semiquan...
Two brothers with clinically definite adult Huntington's disease developed disabling myoclonus years after the first signs of the disease. Their electroencephalograms were consistent with a primary generalized epilepsy, although neither man had seizures. The myoclonus was controlled with valproic acid therapy.
Electroencephalograms of 95 patients with an acute confusional state, referred over three years, were studied to determine their usefulness. The majority were abnormal, and those from patients with intracranial pathology often showed asymmetry of delta activity and paroxysmal discharges. These, and other features, suggested that the EEG was a helpful investigation.
—sequences of measurements of one or more variables pertaining to the same system. The tools include timeresolved statistics and spectra; autocorrelations, mutual information and transfer entropy; complexity, predictability and hypothesis testing. We illustrate the use of these tools by analyzing extracellular recordings from the leech, vasomotion data from monkeys, and human electroencephalogr...
BACKGROUND Conventional electroencephalography remains the gold standard for the diagnosis and quantification of neonatal seizures. However, amplitude-integrated electroencephalography (aEEG) is being introduced to neonatal intensive care as an adjunct for neonatal seizure detection. OBJECTIVES This study's purpose was to determine the sensitivity of neonatal seizure detection in a single ele...
