Received ; accepted – 2 – ABSTRACT We investigate the structure of the solar chromosphere and transition region using full Sun images obtained with the Extreme Ultraviolet Imaging Telescope (EIT) aboard the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) spacecraft. The limb seen in the EIT coronal images (taken in lines of Fe IX/X at 171Å, Fe XII at 195Å and Fe XV at 284Å) is an absorption limb pred...

An approach to broadband cloaking of light waves is analysed for a simplified case of a scaling transformation for a general cylindrical coordinate system. The proposed approach requires metamaterials with specifically engineered dispersion. The restriction on the signs of gradients in the dispersion dependencies of the dielectric permittivity and the magnetic permeability for different operati...

This paper presents EIT-based fabric sensors that aim to provide a pressure mapping using the current carrying and voltage sensing electrodes attached to the boundary of the fabric patch. Pressure-induced shape change over the sensor area makes a change in the conductivity distribution which can be conveyed to the change of boundary current-voltage data. This boundary data is obtained through e...

This paper presents a new image reconstruction technique for 3D EIT based on the extension of the 2D GREIT method. Key aspects include the expansion of optimization targets and set of desired images to cover multiple planes. Results show the reduction off-plane interference seen in 2D reconstruction. The selection of target planes is also found to be highly significant to the image.

A graph G* is l-edge fault tolerant with respect to a graph G, denoted by I-EFT( G), if any graph obtained by removing an edge from G’ contains G. A l-Em(G) graph is said to be optimal if it contains the minimum number of edges among all I-EFT( G) graphs. Let Gf be 1 -EJ!T( Gi) for i = 1,2. It can be easily verified that the Cartesian product graph G; x G; is l-edge fault tolerant with respect ...

We report on light slowing down in a rare-earth-metal-ion-doped crystal by persistent spectral hole burning. The absence of motion of the active ions, the large inhomogeneous broadening, the small homogeneous width, and the long lifetime of the hyperfine shelving states make this material convenient for the burning of narrow persistent spectral holes. Since the hole can be burnt long before the...

Spatial displacements of the probe and generated four-wave mixing beams are observed in a three-level V-type, as well as a two-level atomic system near resonance. The observed spatial shift curves reflect the typical enhanced cross-Kerr nonlinear dispersion properties in the electromagnetically induced transparency EIT systems. The spatial beam displacements are controlled by the strong control...
