We propose two designs of effectively single mode porous polymer fibers for low-loss guiding of terahertz radiation. First, we present a fiber of several wavelengths in diameter containing an array of sub-wavelength holes separated by sub-wavelength material veins. Second, we detail a large diameter hollow core photonic bandgap Bragg fiber made of solid film layers suspended in air by a network...

In this paper, we will construct new examples of derived equivalent Calabi–Yau 3-folds with Picard number greater than one. We also study their mirror manifolds and find that they are given by Schoen's fiber products suitable rational elliptic modular surfaces.

Fiber-matrix interface bonding is an important area of concern in fiber-reinforced composites because it directly related to the mechanical behavior composites. In this study, interfacial bond properties four types fiber at different curing ages were investigated by analyzing pull-out responses. Special attention was given fiber–matrix behavior, including tensile strength, average equivalent an...

We provide conditions for a category with a fiber functor to be equivalent to the category of representations of a linear differential algebraic group. This generalizes the notion of a neutral Tannakian category used to characterize the category of representations of a linear algebraic group [18, 9].

Fiber optic gyroscopes (FOGs), previously the low cost equivalent to other technologies such as ring laser gyroscopes (RLG), have some fresh competition. Microelectromechanical system (MEMS) gyroscopes are beginning to take market share away from traditional FOG applications. Specifically, antenna array stabilization, agricultural machine control, and general vehicle navigation are the battlegr...

A red-shift optical filter all-optical wavelength converter compatible to all-optical WDM networks is introduced and demonstrated at 40 and 10 Gb/s. The wavelength converter provides reshaping and can act as a power equalizer. We use the device to overcome wavelength blocking in a looped-fiber network demonstration equivalent to 42 cross-connect switches and a 16800 km transmission distance.

Stinging nettle (Urtica dioica. L) is a wild, unique herbaceous perennial flowering plant with Stinging hairs. It has a long history of use as a food sources as a soup or curries, and also used as a fiber as well as a medicinal herb. The current aim was to analyze the composition and bioactive compounds in Nepalese Stinging nettle. Chemical analysis showed the relatively higher level of crude p...

Remarkably little is known about the higher-order folding motifs of the chromatin fiber inside the cell nucleus. Folding depends among others on local gene density and transcriptional activity and plays an important role in gene regulation. Strikingly, at fiber lengths above 5 to 10 Mb the measured mean square distance between any two points on the chromatin fiber is independent of polymer...

An active wide-band fiber optic frequency distribution system employing a thermally controlled phase compensator to stabilize phase variations induced by environmenkal temperaiure changes is described. The dishibution system utilizes bidirational ddwavekng th transmission to provide optical feedback of induced phase variations of 100 MHz signals propagating along the distribution cable. The pha...

The differences in angulation and length observed for the fibers of anatomical muscles may reflect two distinct mechanical requirements: arrangement for pinnation, reflecting an increase in physiological cross-section and arrangement for equivalent placement of sarcomeres, possibly associated with coordination. The observed differences in fiber angulation and length have different effects upon ...
