The occurrence of bilateral extradural hematomas is an uncommon consequence of craniocerebral trauma and its incidence is variable in various studies ranging from 2-25%.1 We studied all cases of head injury brought to our institute over a period of 6 months and found the incidence of bilateral extradural hematomas to be 13.3%.
PURPOSE To assess whether a single enhanced T1-weighted gradient echo volume sequence, with the appropriate reformatted images, could be equivalent to a more conventional 2D set of MR sequences for the evaluation of cervical extradural degenerative disk disease (bony canal and foraminal stenosis; disk herniation). MATERIALS AND METHODS Sixty-one patients evaluated for extradural degenerative ...
Sir,—The hypothesis advanced by Narang and Linter [1] concerning the cause of unilateral extradural blockade is intriguing. However, I must take exception to their mathematics. Using the data from their table I, I have calculated the percentage of unsatisfactory blocks at each S—EDS (skin— extradural space distance) (table I). Spearmans rank correlation remains the same, but the authors' statem...
INTRODUCTION Decompressive surgery for acute subdural hematoma leading to contralateral extradural hematoma is an uncommon event with only few cases previously reported in the English medical literature. CASE PRESENTATION The present study describes the case of a 39-year-old White Brazilian man who had a motorcycle accident; he underwent decompressive craniectomy for the treatment of acute su...
The non-traumatic acute epidural/extradural hematoma is an entity rarely described in the literature. In general, it characterizes the young age, especially due to the relation of the dura mater with the internal side of the skull. In this article the authors present a case of pathological extradural hematoma, following a disseminated intravascular coagulation that appeared to a young woman suf...
Sir,—We thank Dr Sinton for his detailed comments on our case report. The combined spinal-extradural was used to provide analgesia for vaginal examination and rupture of membranes in this woman with a known low lying placenta. In our experience, this technique provides excellent sacral analgesia without motor block, which is obviously undesirable in early labour. We apologize that full details ...
INTRODUCTION Postoperative spinal extradural hematomas are rare. Most of the cases that have been reported occured within 3 days of surgery. Their occurrence in a delayed form, that is, more than 72 hours after surgery, is very rare. This case is being reported to enhance awareness of delayed postoperative spinal extradural hematomas. CASE PRESENTATION We report a case of acute onset dorsal s...
100 cases of extradural spinal compression comprising 74% of all cases of spinal compression were included. ver-tebral and extravertebral compression occurred with equal frequency. 1. most of tjhe cases occurred between 20-50 years of age, with no significant dif'fe'rerlce1s between various causes, except in vertebral hemangioma which tend o affect the younger age groups (10-20). males were ...
OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to evaluate the usefulness of proton density magnetic resonance (PD MR) imaging for localization of paraclinoid internal carotid artery aneurysms. MATERIALS AND METHODS From April 2014 to April 2015, 76 unruptured paraclinoid aneurysms in 66 patients were evaluated using PD MR and angiography (CT/MR angiography or digital subtraction angiography). The l...
