BMJ Case Rep Published online: [please include Day Month Year] doi:10.1136/bcr-2014203600 DESCRIPTION Figures 1–3 show a lesion on the anterior chest of a 49-year-old woman which was originally misdiagnosed as a keloid scar. Keloids are benign, raised, irregular clusters of scar tissue which grow beyond the margins of an original wound due to abnormal proliferat...
Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP) is a rare, plaque-like tumor of the cutaneous tissue occurring more on the trunk than the extremities and neck. More than 95% of DFSP present anomalies on the 17q22 and 22q13 chromosomal regions leading to the fusion of COL1A1 and PDGFB genes. Surgery is the optimal treatment for DFSP, but less effective in locally advanced or metastatic patients, as is th...
INTRODUCTION Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans is a rare, locally aggressive cutaneous tumor of intermediate to low-grade malignancy. COL1A1-PDGFβ translocation is specific to dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans, where the abnormally fused COL1A1-PDGFβ gene directs formation of an abnormal combined (fusion) protein that researchers believe to ultimately function like the platelet-derived growth facto...
Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP) is very rare tumor of dermis layer of skin with the incidence of only 1 case per million per year. DFSP rarely leads to a metastasis (Less than 5% have metastasis), but DFSP can recur locally. We publish a rare case of a recurrent dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans and its management with radical excision and interval skin grafting.

Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP) has been described as a rare, locally invasive, malignant fibroblastic tumor with a high rate of recurrence that usually affects middle-aged patients. Herein, we describe a rare case of a pedunculated dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans of the right thumb in an 80-year-old woman treated with excision through the base of the pedicle. We also make a brief litera...
Curative surgical treatment of recurrent, locally advanced dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans is often limited owing to a close relation of the tumor with important anatomical structures. Targeted therapy with imatinib, a tyrosine kinase inhibitor, may cause significant reduction of tumor volume, thereby enabling radical surgery. This treatment strategy, therefore, offers a chance of cure for sele...
Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans is a locally aggressive skin tumor that affects young and middle-aged adults. A number of histological variants have been described, the myxoid type being one of the least common. Microscopically it is formed of a neoplastic growth that is located in the dermis and hypodermis and has a predominant myxoid component. Peripherally there are infiltrating bundles of s...
Dermatofibrosarcoma is a rare, slow-growing and fibrohistocytic neoplasm. It is locally aggressive tumor and potential for distant metastasis is low. It nature is intermediate to low-grade malignancy. It is commonly seen on the trunk followed by the proximal extremities and the head and neck . We came across one such case who presented with 40yrs of age with swelling over supra umbilical midlin...
