Various methods for treating nonhomogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions for the p-version of the finite element method are presented. These methods are theoretically and comrutationally analyzed. Numerical experimentations are given. They clearly illustrate the importance of the right treatment of the nonhomogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions.
Induction heating of nonmagnetic cylindrical billets by rotation in uniform magnetic field produced by static permanent magnets is modeled. Numerical analysis of the process providing the distributions of magnetic and temperature fields is carried out in the monolithic formulation, using our own code based on higher-order finite element method. The methodology is illustrated by a typical exampl...
present work shows the numerical determination of fatigue crack opening and closure stress intensity factors of a C(T) specimen under variable amplitude loading using a finite element method. A half compact tension C(T) specimen, assuming plane stress constraint was used by finite element method covering the effects in two-dimensional (2D) small scale yielding models of fatigue crack growth und...
We consider a finite element method based on biorthogonal or quasi-biorthogonal systems for the biharmonic problem. The method is based on the primal mixed finite element method due to Ciarlet and Raviart for the biharmonic equation. Using different finite element spaces for the stream function and vorticity, this approach leads to a formulation only based on the stream function. We prove optim...
We obtain a computable a posteriori error bound on the broken energy norm of the error in the Fortin–Soulie finite element approximation of a linear second order elliptic problem with variable permeability. This bound is shown to be efficient in the sense that it also provides a lower bound for the broken energy norm of the error up to a constant and higher order data oscillation terms. The est...
The paper studies a finite element method for computing transport and diffusion along evolving surfaces. The method does not require a parametrization of a surface or an extension of a PDE from a surface into a bulk outer domain. The surface and its evolution may be given implicitly, e.g., as the solution of a level set equation. This approach naturally allows a surface to undergo topological c...
introduction: excessive temperature rise during drilling of the mandible for dental implant placement might damage adjacent osseous tissues. various factors affect temperature rise, including the geometrical parameters of surgical drills, one of which is the drill bit head angle. the aim of this research was to determine suitable drill bit head angle to induce minimum temperature rise during ma...
conclusions the most relevant finding was that hook pinning in pauwels type iii fracture may result in delayed :union: or non:union: due to significantly increased stress of a traction force at the fracture site that works to displace the fracture. however, in a pauwels type i fracture, increased compression stress contributes to stabilize it. surgeons are recommended not to treat pauwels type ...
