a finite difference technique for solving variable-order fractional integro-differential equations
in this article, we use a finite difference technique to solve variable-order fractional integro-differential equations (vofides, for short). in these equations, the variable-order fractional integration(vofi) and variable-order fractional derivative (vofd) are described in the riemann-liouville's and caputo's sense, respectively. numerical experiments, consisting of two exam...
An implicit integration strategy for use with the Material Point Method (MPM) is described. This strategy uses an incremental–iterative solution strategy based on a Newton method to solve the equations of motion and Newmark integration to update the kinematic variables. An example problem was used to compare the implicit integration scheme to the traditional explicit integration scheme used wit...
With Adaptively Weighted (AW) numerical integration, for a given set of quadrature nodes, order and domain of integration, the quadrature weights are obtained by solving a system of suitable moment fitting equations in least square sense. The moments in the moment equations are approximated over a simplified domain that is homeomorphic to the original domain, and then are corrected for the devi...
In this paper we introduce two novel numerical integration schemes, within the framework of the heterogeneous multiscale method (HMM) when finite element method is used as the macroscopic solver, to resolve the elliptic problem with multiscale coefficient. For non-self-adjoint elliptic problems, optimal convergence rate is proved for the proposed methods, which naturally yields a new strategy f...

The finite elements considered in this paper are those of the Serendipity family of curved isoparametric elements. There is given a detailed analysis of a superconvergence phenomenon for the gradient of approximate solutions to second order elliptic boundary value problems. An approach is proposed how to use the superconvergence in practical computations.
Three-dimensional enriched finite elements are used to compute mixed-mode stress intensity factors (SIFs) for three-dimensional cracks in elastic functionally graded materials (FGMs) that are subject to general mixed-mode loading. The method, which advantageously does not require special mesh configuration/modifications and post-processing of finite element results, is an enhancement of previou...
