Glycosylasparaginase (GA) is a member of a novel family of N-terminal nucleophile hydrolases that catalytically use an N-terminal residue as both a polarizing base and a nucleophile. These enzymes are activated from a single chain precursor by intramolecular autoproteolysis to yield the N-terminal nucleophile. A deficiency of GA results in the human genetic disorder known as aspartylglycosaminu...

Ten strains of Flavobacterium meningosepticum were isolated from routine clinical material during a period of two years. Of a number of antibiotics tested, clindamycin was the only one to which they were fully sensitive. The organism was found in chlorhexidine gluconate (Hibitane) solutions in use on the wards for the storage of thermometers and for routine disinfection.

Chrysobacterium meningosepticum (Flavobacterium meningosepticum) is a known cause of meningitis in premature and newborn infants. Infection due to this organism in adults is uncommon. We report 5 cases of Chrysobacterium meningosepticum in adult patients. Most of these patients were elderly and had underlying co-morbidities.

F. psychrophilum is the causative agent of Bacterial Cold Water Disease (BCW) and Rainbow Trout Fry Syndrome (RTFS). To date, diagnosis relies mainly on direct microscopy or cultural methods. Direct microscopy is fast but not very reliable, whereas cultural methods are reliable but time-consuming and labor-intensive. So far fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) has not been used in the diagn...

Flavobacterium spartansii strain T16T was isolated from a disease outbreak in hatchery-reared Chinook salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha) fingerlings. To gain insight into its genomic content, structure and virulence pathogenesis factors, comparative genome analyses were performed using genomes from environmental and virulent Flavobacterium strains. F. spartansii shared low average nucleotide ide...

Here, we present the draft genome sequence ofFlavobacteriumsp. 316, isolated from brackish water of the Gulf of Gdańsk, southern Baltic Sea. The assembly contains 3,971,755 bp in 17 scaffolds. The sequence will facilitate postgenomic studies on bacterial stress responses in the challenging habitat of the Baltic Sea.

Here, we present the draft genome sequences of a zeaxanthin-producing flavobacterium, Algibacter lectus strains SS8 and NR4, isolated from coastal sediment and rock surfaces in Hakodate, Japan, respectively. This genomic information represents the first Algibacter genome sequences, which will help us to elucidate the biology and evolution of Flavobacteriaceae bacteria.

Legionella pneumophila, the agent of Legionnaires' disease pneumonia, is transmitted to humans following the inhalation of contaminated water droplets. In aquatic systems, L. pneumophila survives much of time within multi-organismal biofilms. Therefore, we examined the ability of L. pneumophila (clinical isolate 130 b) to persist within biofilms formed by various types of aquatic bacteria, usin...
