We analyze the structure of reduced expressions in the Coxeter groups An, Bn and Dn. Several special classes of elements are singled out for their connections with symmetric functions or the theory of P -partitions. Membership in these special classes is characterized in a variety of ways, including forbidden patterns, forbidden subwords, and by the form of canonically chosen reduced words.

We introduce and study a class of simplicial complexes, the orphan complexes, associated to simple graphs whose family of (open or closed) vertex-neighborhoods are anti-Sperner. Under suitable restrictions, we show that orphan complexes of such graphs are always shellable and provide a characterization of graphs in terms of induced forbidden subgraphs contained in this restricted subfamily.

In this paper we demonstrate that several theorems from [1] and [3] do not hold as they are stated. These are the theorems regarding forbidden subposet characterizations of certain classes of coverincomparability graphs. In this paper we correct a mistake in the main theorem of [1], reformulate the corresponding statements and present corrected proofs. We further characterize posets whose cover...

In search of the similarities and differences between blood plasma and synovial fluid, on one hand, and normal and pathological joint fluid on the other, it appeared important to investigate systematically the protein components of joint fluid. Investigations of the synovial fluid proteins by electrophoresis have been carried out by several authors (1-4). The identification of these proteins ha...

Fluid secretion by exocrine glands requires the coordinated activity of multiple water and ion transporter and channel proteins. The molecular cloning of many of the transporter molecules involved in fluid secretion has yielded a better understanding of the fluid secretion process. Mouse salivary glands are easily accessible model systems for the study of exocrine gland secretion at the cellula...

This paper presents numerical simulations of incompressible fluid flow problems in the presence of a magnetic field. The equations governing the flow consist of the Navier-Stokes equations of fluid motion coupled with Maxwell ́s equations of electromagnetics. The study of fluid flows under the influence of a magnetic field and with no free electric charges or electric fields is known as magnetoh...

Objective: To characterize the fluid properties and fluid-rock interactions that are needed for formation evaluation by NMR well logging. This project is a partnership between Professor George J. Hirasaki at Rice University and Professor Kishore Mohanty at University of Houston. In addition to the DOE, a consortium of oil companies and service companies supports this project. The advances made ...

This paper presents a variety of field applications that illustrate recent advances in nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) logging fluid characterization methods. The main concepts of NMR logging and the principles underlying NMR diffusion measurements, which form the basis for all standalone NMR fluid characterization methods, are briefly reviewed. Field examples of the MRF Magnetic Resonance Flu...

Geothermal and unconventional hydrocarbon reservoirs are often characterized by low permeability and porosity. So, they are difficult to produce and require stimulation techniques, such as thermal shear deactivation and hydraulic fracturing. Fractures provide porosity for fluid storage and permeability for fluid movement and play an important role in production from this kind of reservoirs. Hen...

This work demonstrated the design, fabrication, packaging, and characterization of an active microscaffold system with fluid perfusion/nutrient delivery functionalities for culturing in vitro neuronal networks from dissociated hippocampal rat pup neurons. The active microscaffold consisted of an 8 x 8 array of hollow, microfabricated, SU-8 towers (1.0 mm or 1.5 mm in height), with integrated, h...
