This paper deals with sustainability in forestry management. We study a dynamic control system within the mathematical framework of viability analysis. In particular, we use the concept of viability kernel to reveal sustainable harvesting policies and sustainable resource states. An example illustrates the general statements.
Governments around the world are increasingly devolving authority for forest management to the local level in an attempt to strengthen the management of national forests. Community forestry programs are recognized as providing a range of economic and social benefits and having a positive impact on increasing forest cover. However, moving towards diversified forest management that deviates from well established silvicultural practices carries many uncertainties and risks. Adaptive management is often suggested as an effe...

Particularly in states using intensive forest management, such as Sweden, this approach marks a departure from current strategies for achieving ma...

High price of chippers and small scale of forestry management area seemed to create a standstill situation of chip utilization system in Japan. By combining the benefits of small scale forestry and low price chippers, a simple and low-cost chip supply model could be established, creating new employments opportunities. The object of this study is to propose the benefits of a chip supply system i...
