We survey the application of contraction mapping argments to selfsimilar (nonrandom) fractal sets, measures and functions. We review the results for selfsimilar random fractal sets and measures and show how the method and extensions also work for selfsimilar random fractal functions.

The self-similarity properties of fractals are studied in the framework of the theory of entire analytical functions and the q-deformed algebra of coherent states. Self-similar structures are related to dissipation and to noncommutative geometry in the plane. The examples of the Koch curve and logarithmic spiral are considered in detail. It is suggested that the dynamical formation of fractals ...

In this paper we consider the topological aspects of sets defined by fractal geometry. Topology, as a geometry, is extended to the definition of fractal structures by characterising equivalences in different levels of detail. A group of distinct topological fractals are defined by taking the equipotence and multiplicity properties of sets. Additionally, we define fractal metamorphosis as the se...

We give the first natural examples of Calderón-Zygmund operators in the theory of analysis on post-critically finite self-similar fractals. This is achieved by showing that the purely imaginary Riesz and Bessel potentials on nested fractals with 3 or more boundary points are of this type. It follows that these operators are bounded on Lp, 1 < p < ∞ and satisfy weak 1-1 bounds. The analysis may ...

Fractals arise from a variety of sources and have been observed in nature and on computer screens. One of the exceptional characteristics of fractals is that they can be described by a noninteger dimension. The geometry of fractals and the mathematics of fractal dimension have provided useful tools for a variety of scientific disciplines, among which is chaos. Chaotic dynamical systems exhibit ...

A new technique of topological multi-scale analysis is introduced. By performing a clustering recursively to build a hierarchy, and analyzing the co-scale and intra-scale similarities, an Iterated Function System can be extracted from any data set. The study of fractals shows that this method is efficient to extract self-similarities, and can find elegant solutions the inverse problem of buildi...
