Patients with HIV/AIDS can present with multiple types of fungal rhinosinusitis, fungal balls, granulomatous invasive fungal rhinosinusitis, acute or chronic invasive fungal rhinosinusitis, or allergic fungal rhinosinusitis (AFRS). Given the variable spectrum of immune status and susceptibility to severe infection from opportunistic pathogens it is extremely important that clinicians distinguis...
background: malassezia are dimorphic, lipid-dependent yeasts, which are responsible for causing several cutaneous and systemic conditions. although cyclophilins (cyps) are highly conserved cytosolic proteins that catalyze the peptidyl-prolyl cis-trans isomerazation reaction before protein folding process, it has been suggestive of an allergen in a few numbers of fungi such as aspergillus fumig...
molds are one of the most important causes of food spoilage that produce toxic substances called mycotoxins, which endanger the consumer health. the adverse effects of synthetic food preservatives consumption made researches to focus on application of natural preservatives in order to increase shelf life of food as well as prevention of harmful effects of chemical preservatives. the present stu...

The incidence of fungal peritonitis (FP) and the fungi that caused FP were evaluated in 422 patients treated with peritoneal dialysis. During an 11-year period, 804 episodes of peritonitis occurred, 46 (5.7%) of which were caused by fungi. Treatment was successful for 39 patients. Early diagnosis of FP and prompt therapy decreases morbidity and mortality.
In October 2012, the CDC reported an outbreak of fungal meningitis associated with methylprednisolone injections [1]. Although the index case had Aspergillus fumigatus meningitis [2], subsequent reports indicated that the majority of affected patients had meningitis caused by Exserohilum rostratum, an extremely rare cause of human fungal disease [1,3,4]. The outbreak is presumably the result of...
Fungal Enolase, β-Tubulin, and Chitin Are Detected in Brain Tissue from Alzheimer’s Disease Patients
Recent findings provide evidence that fungal structures can be detected in brain tissue from Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients using rabbit polyclonal antibodies raised against whole fungal cells. In the present work, we have developed and tested specific antibodies that recognize the fungal proteins, enolase and β-tubulin, and an antibody that recognizes the fungal polysaccharide chitin. Consi...
Objective. The aim of our study was to try to determine the possible environmental risk factors for noninvasive fungal sinusitis in Egyptian patients. Methods. This is a prospective epidemiological case control study on the environmental risk factors of noninvasive fungal sinusitis. It included 60 patients and 100 age and sex matched controls. Results.
