Determination of pesticide levels in natural water bodies requires complex chemical methods not always available in tropical countries where such control programmes are implemented. Apart from chemical methods, effectiveness of treatment can be estimated by mortality of target and non-target species. But the latter criteria do not permit a good appraisal of dispersion and residual activity of p...

The new applications of various chromatographic techniques such as gas-liquid chromatography, high-performance liquid chromatography and electrophoretic methods employed for the analysis in macro- and micro-components in vegetable oils and dairy products are compiled and critically evaluated. The employment of these methods for authenticity tests and traceability is discussed.

The price of feedstock is one of the most significant factors affecting the economic viability of biodiesel manufacturer. Many approaches were investigated to reduce the biodiesel production cost. The present work gave a preliminary study of two approaches to economically produce biodiesel from waste cooking oil (WCO) and flaked cottonseed. One was the use of ultrasound-assisted synthesis of bi...

Although cellular alterations occurring during infection may reflect a general response to perturbation associated with pathogenesis rather than a specific response to the virulent agent (1, 2), the biochemical changes effected in the host by a pathogen may be highly specific and detectable by ultrasensitive gas-liquid chromatographic (glc) techniques (3, 4). However, such chromatographic analy...

Rubber-degrading activity was found in the extracellular culture medium of Xanthomonas sp. strain 35Y which was grown on natural rubber latex. Natural rubber in the latex state was degraded by the crude enzyme, and two fractions were separately observed by gel permeation chromatography of the reaction products. One fraction was of higher molecular weight (HMW) with a very wide MW distribution f...

1. A method is described for the differentiation and determination of as little as 0.2mug. of vitamins D(2) and D(3) by gas-liquid chromatography. 2. The vitamins are converted by treatment with antimony trichloride into isovitamins D(2) and D(3), which show single, separate peaks on gas-liquid chromatography, unlike the unmodified vitamins, which give twin peaks due to the formation of pyro an...

The cellular fatty acid composition of eight Haemophilus equigenitalis strains was determined by gas-liquid chromatography. All strains showed a grossly similar pattern characterized by large amounts of 18:1 and 16:0. The amounts of 16:1, 18:2, 18:0, 3-OH 14:0, 3-OH 16:0, and 3-OH 18:1 were relatively small.

M.R. VASKO, L.E. DOMINO and E.F. DOMINO, Differential effects of d-amphetamine on brain acetylcholine in young, adult and geriatric rats, European J. Pharmacol. 27 (1974) 145-147. Varying doses of d-amphetamine were given i.p. to young (28 day old), adult (approximately 90 day old), and geriatric rats (approximately 2 years old). 30 min after injection, rats were sacrificed and ACH extracted an...

We describe a micromethod for measuring hexachlorophene by use of gas-liquid chromatography with a 63Ni electron capture detector. The procedure requires 100 micronl of blood for extractions of hexachlorophene, and dichlorophene is added as an internal standard. CV is 3.4% over the concentration range of 500 to 1300 microng of hexachlorophene per liter of whole blood. This procedure permits rep...
