A method was developed for the preparation of genomic DNA from clotted blood that is usually discarded after extraction, for other laboratory tests. The method, which involves proteinase K digestion, salt/chloroform extraction and 90% ethanol precipitation of DNA from clotted blood, is rapid, simple, and easy because it does not impose an extra burden on the patient.
Modern evolutionary study of wild ape populations requires the collection of genomic DNA from individuals living in their natural habitat. In order to be maximally useful, these samples must be robust enough for the amplification and subsequent assembly of genomic sequences, which are driving much of modern evolutionary research. Additionally, conservation efforts require that these samples be ...
Metagenomics is a discipline that enables the genomic study of unculturaled microorganisms. Microorganisms constitute two third of the Earth’s biological diversity. In many environments, 99% of the microorganisms cannot be cultured by standard techniques. Culture-independent methods are required to study the genetic diversity, population structure and ecological roles of the majority of o...
INTRODUCTION Today, with the tremendous potential of genomics and other recent advances in science, the role of science to improve reliable DNA extraction methods is more relevant than ever before. The ideal process for genomic DNA extraction demands high quantities of pure, integral and intact genomic DNA (gDNA) from the sample with minimal co-extraction of inhibitors of downstream processes. ...
background: infestation of the skin by the “itch mite” sarcoptes scabiei var. hominis results in a contagious skin infection in humans called “sca-bies”. by resolving morphology issues, the present study was designed to be acquainted with itch mite by molecular markers. methods: the mite samples were collected from scabies patients by visiting government hospitals of twin city, pakistan. for su...
In recent years, animal ethics issues have led researchers to explore nondestructive methods to access materials for genetic studies. Cicada exuviae are among those materials because they are cast skins that individuals left after molt and are easily collected. In this study, we aim to identify the most efficient extraction method to obtain high quantity and quality of DNA from cicada exuviae. ...
