Aberrant DNA methylation has been implicated in tumorigenesis. This study was undertaken to establish the genome-wide DNA methylation profile in uterine leiomyomas and to investigate whether DNA methylation status is altered in uterine leiomyomas. For this purpose, restriction landmark genomic scanning (RLGS) was performed on a paired sample of leiomyoma and adjacent normal myometrium. The RLGS...

We present a case of hypercalcemia in a 79-year-old female likely secondary to uterine leiomyoma. To the best of our knowledge, hypercalcemia due to a benign tumor has only been described in five cases. Of these above five cases, uterine leiomyoma was thought to be the cause of hypercalcemia in three cases.

Uterine fibroid embolization (UFE) is a new minimally-invasive treatment option for leiomyomata of the uterus leading to symptomatic improvement and shrinkage of the fibroids. We present a case of restoration of the uterine architecture after disintegration and stepwise expulsion of infarcted leiomyoma tissue 7 months after UFE for leiomyoma-related menorrhagia.

Uterine leiomyomas are the most common pelvic tumor in women. Leiomyoma can show atypical locations and degenerations and may not be easily differentiated from adnexal masses. Uterine leiomyoma can undergo cystic degeneration and is said to be found in 4% of all types of degenerations. The commonest type of degeneration is hyaline seen in 60% of patients. Usually uterine leiomyoma does not pres...
