We developed a hydrogen sensor of reduced graphene oxide-loaded ZnO nanofibers. An extremely high response of about 866 at a low concentration of 100 ppb was obtained. The combined effect of the presence of rGO nanosheets and hydrogen-induced metallization of ZnO played a crucial role in enhancing the detection behavior.

The visible and near-infrared (vis-NIR) fluorescence of graphene oxide nanosheets (GO) shows a reversible and sensitive response to ionic strength and pH, in particular a linear physiological pH dependence for monitoring extracellular pH evolution during growth and metabolism of normal and cancer cells.

We describe an alternative electrochemical technique to monitor covalent bond formation in real-time using nanoparticle-electrode collisions. The method is based on recognising the redox current when MP-11 functionalised chemical reduced graphene oxide (rGO) nanosheets collide with Lomant's reagent modified gold microelectrode. This facile and highly sensitive monitoring method can be useful fo...

For the first time, this work reports a facile sonochemical route in the synthesis of graphene oxide nanosheets (GO) via oxidation of graphite (G). The synthesis of GO was carried out in a fast way under ultrasonic bath irradiation (GO-U). In comparison, the synthesis of GO via classical method (GO-C) was done under the same conditions as ultrasonic method. The products were completely differen...

The growth of ultrathin ZnCo2O4 nanosheets on reduced graphene oxide (denoted as rGO/ZnCo2O4) via a facile low-temperature solution method combined with a subsequent annealing treatment is reported. With the assistance of citrate, interconnected ZnCo2O4 nanosheets can assemble into hierarchically porous overlays on both sides of rGO sheets. Such a hybrid nanostructure would effectively faciliat...

The silicon nanostructure is a promising candidate for an anode of Li-ion batteries due to its high theoretical capacity. In this work, we have demonstrated the scalable synthesis of Si nanosheets from natural sand by magnesiothermic reduction, and suggested a new formation mechanism for Si nanosheets. In the suggested mechanism, an Mg₂Si intermediate phase was formed at an early stage of the r...

Fe2O3 nanosheets and nanoparticles are grown on graphene by simply varying reaction solvents in a facile solvothermal/hydrothermal preparation. Fe2O3 nanosheets are uniformly dispersed among graphene nanosheets, forming a unique sheet-on-sheet nanostructure. Due to the structure affinity between two types of two dimensional nanostructures, graphene nanosheets are separated better by Fe2O3 nanos...

Porous graphene nanostructures are of great interest for applications in catalysis and energy storage. However, the fabrication of three-dimensional (3D) macroporous graphene nanostructures with controlled morphology, porosity and surface area still presents significant challenges. Here we introduce an ice-templated self-assembly approach for the integration of two-dimensional graphene nanoshee...

Dispersion of nanomaterials in polymeric matrices plays an important role in determining the final properties of the composites. Dispersion in nano scale, and especially in single layers, provides best opportunity for bonding. In this study, we propose that by proper functionalization and mixing strategy of graphene its dispersion, and bonding to the polymeric matrix can be improved. We then ap...

Inspired by the ternary structure of natural nacre, robust ternary artificial nacre is constructed through synergistic toughening of graphene oxide (GO) and molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) nanosheets via a vacuum-assisted filtration self-assembly process. The synergistic toughening effect from high mechanical properties of GO and lubrication of MoS2 nanosheets is successfully demonstrated. Meanwhil...
